I fancy a bit of that. Nic Cage Bad Lieutenant is one of my favorite films ever, not that they'll be anything alike, pretty cool movie series it's turned into though. Quote

Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted May 13, 2025 Paid Members Posted May 13, 2025 I've already waited too long to see this and I only found out about it 5 minutes ago. Quote
SaitoRyo Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Might be of interest to some people on here. I've got a whole bunch of these in a box somewhere at my parent's place and used to love randomly finding them in various shops. I've got a lot of time for the likes of Peking Opera Blues, A Chinese Ghost Story and the earlier John Woo films. Great fun. Quote
WyattSheepMask Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 As with a lot of recent Arrow releases, I look forward to it not working properly and receiving a replacement disc three months after purchase Quote
cobra_gordo Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 Thought this was the most suitable thread for it but last night I really fancied watching the second half of Titanic. I've seen that film a lot and I've watched it like that before, cut out all the romantic build up and start from them hitting the iceberg. Infuriatingly it wasn't on any of the streaming services I pay for and after searching it on Amazon Prime I exited back to the main menu where the first film suggested to me was........ Failure To Launch. Spent that long laughing I had to watch it in the end. So, are there any other good ironic film pairings? Quote

When they were first released My Neighbour Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies were often paired together in a double screening, which while isn't quite what you're looking for, is jarring. Quote
WyattSheepMask Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 The wife & I were trying to think of the most jarring Double Feature you could sit through. We settled on A Serbian Film being paired with Paddington 2 Quote
organizedkaos Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 Trying to think one that's more about whiplash due to the connection to the films rather than just two complete opposites. Like the context of one makes things in the other one impossible to deal with. Performances that lodge in your brain paired with each other stuff lke that. Someone plays a vile rapist and then love interest. Like, a TV example, would be pairing Friday Night Lights with Breaking Bad season 5. Sweet lovable Landry becomes psychopathic Meth Damon. Or any of episode of Monk where his saintly departed wife is played by Melora Hardin and the dinner party episode of the Office. Suddenly Monk's devotion to his dead wife feels more like he might be the product of an abusive relationship and lucky she died. Maybe Straight Story paired with Wild at Heart. Straight Story still has Lynch's tone, it's just in the background and made nice and fluffy. If you watched another darker film Lynch film beforehand you'd constantly be expecting Straight Story to turn because you're brain would notice the tone more and how he fluctuates between light and dark. (I saw Straight Story with a live performed soundtrack that really highlighted the Lynchian stuff, remove most of the dialogue and add dark ambient industrial electronica and it doesn't half feel different) Quote

Merzbow Posted June 15, 2025 Posted June 15, 2025 Mubi have finally become the bad guys after being the good streamers for so long, taking funding from people that also directly fund Israeli defence while some of the investors are on stolen land themselves and defending the action. I'm not gonna force anyone to boycott but personally think they can get fucked, I won't be using them any longer. Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted June 26, 2025 Paid Members Posted June 26, 2025 (edited) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn41yddj4m1o Denis Villeneuve is directing the next James Bond film. I'm in two minds, really. I like him as a director for the most part but I'm not as high on the Dune films as most (they're good, just not great in my eyes) and, as much as I liked the Daniel Craig films, I did want this Bond to be a more traditional old-school back-to-basics offering and I don't think Villeneuve will provide that.
