Members SuperBacon Posted August 22, 2025 Members Posted August 22, 2025 My new favourite website. https://howmanycigarettes.com/porco-rosso/ Counts how many cigarettes smoked in a film. Important information. Quote
WyattSheepMask Posted August 22, 2025 Posted August 22, 2025 Is that the new restoration of Hard Boiled that’s coming out on 4K next year? Quote

d-d-d-dAz Posted September 2, 2025 Posted September 2, 2025 (edited) It's really disheartening to wake up to pictures of The Rock sobbing as he's given a 15 minute standing ovation for The Smashing Machine in Venice, as the world's press tip him for an Oscar. Trump is President, Rollins is Champion... and Dwayne might win an Oscar? Year of The Arsehole. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DOFF7k7kY5s/?igsh=ZjdyeXk3cjV2NDk4 Edited September 2, 2025 by d-d-d-dAz Quote
Merzbow Posted September 2, 2025 Posted September 2, 2025 I'm putting it all on Benny Safdie, no way Dwayne earnt it on his tod. Those brothers have a way of directing less than stellar actors, not including Robert Pattinson as he's legit amazing. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted September 2, 2025 Paid Members Posted September 2, 2025 The Rock is slim again now so I guess he's realised his run as "unwatchable action slop star" has run it's course and he's going to try and be a serious actor again now. Quote

Fascinates me that, recently, the world seems gripped by the debate about whether John Cena or The Rock is the better actor. Until this Oscar nonsense, i'd have confidently said a) obviously Cena is better and b) Batista is clearly the right answer. Quote

I think it's something they enjoy doing. Quote

d-d-d-dAz Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 I watched Hard Truths, the Mike Leigh film. It wouldn't ordinarily be my sort of thing, I don't think, but I thought Marianne Jean-Baptiste was absolutely superb. Even amongst the dark, there was some really funny moments and I thought the grave side scene was beautiful. Good film. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted September 17, 2025 Members Posted September 17, 2025 Enjoyed this piece on Redford and Sundance https://www.theguardian.com/film/2025/sep/17/robert-redford-sundance-american-independent-cinema Quote
DavidB6937 Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 I love anything movie history related and Redford's story is such a fascinating one. I think that's what I miss with today's movie industry. I always love the enthusiasm for the cinema, the big stars, the developments in movie making etc. I feel like there's far less to get excited about surrounding the actual industry itself. It's why I love watching Tom Cruise do his behind the scenes stuff because that always feels like a true movie making process that can be such a rarity. I guess that's just the thing about technology as a whole though where you just get to the point where only teeny tiny improvements can be made. Anyway that was a random thought detour sorry - yes, all the Redford. Quote
