Why have they used AI or a camera filter for the WWE Title match ring announcing that put the crowd in soft focus and makes the whole thing look like a video game cut scene from 2010? They’ve always done that to give certain title matches a big fight feel Stayed up to watch up until just before the main event and I thought it was a great show, every match delivered Great to see Aldis get the big treatment of not only coming out to one of Oasis’ biggest hits but also getting his ‘National Treasure’ nickname from his NWA days and he didn’t look out of place, especially given he’s not wrestled in 3 years I just hope, given how good last night was, that tonight isn’t a damp squib as I’ve got high hopes for the Finn/Sami and Penta/Gable matches Quote

Which isn't in any way shape or form 8k but gives that weird look. My 10 year old commented this morning that it looks like FIFA on the Xbox. Quote
NeverYield Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I enjoyed Aldis vs Gunther, thought Aldis looked the part, great physical condition and ring gear, and for being out of the ring 3 years I thought he put in a good shift. CM Punk vs Cody Rhodes was horrific, I appreciate they started off with the slow, methodical mat wrestling route, trying to build it up, tell a story, but none of it hit for me, and I thought both looked off, it was messy and that moonsault was dreadful. Brock and Oba was what it was, they could have at least made a point of using the Cell, but it was two big men throwing each other about and smashing into each other, until what I believe was a slightly botched finish, it looked to me like Brock wanted Oba to dump him onto the exposed boards. The other matches were ok but again not anything to write home about.. I thought both Mustafa Ali vs Jason Hotch, and Nic Nemeth vs KC Navarro were better matches than anything on the Sunmerslam card last night.. Hope night 2 is better, but I have my doubts, givd Chad Gable gets the IC Title at least. Quote

Aldis bowling in like a coked up uncle at a wedding reliving his Britpop heyday despite the fact he would have been about 10 when that song came out is the best thing about the show. There was some OK wrestling which isn't always a given but the most jarring thing is the last match of Night 1, which as we all know isn't the main event, merely the last act of the first half. Why in the name of sweet baby Jesus are you tearing up the ring to expose the wood (Matron!) when the whole structure is made of metal. Fucking daft as a brush. Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted August 2 Posted August 2 (edited) So. Bollocks. I have made clear just how much I enjoy watching Punk's matches, because his scruffiness and knackeredness makes everything look a bit more real. A bit of a fight. Here? The scales tipped. And, I think it's because he's done what he always does... bought his own bullshit. Have a couple of succesful beginner jiu jitsu classes? ...Best be a UFC fighter. Start to see the abs for the first time in three decades? ...Best start matches at an unsustainable clip and try moonsaults. Horrible. Awkward to watch. The more he fought reality, the older and more out of step he looked. I thought it was a really uncomfortable watch, where Punk was off the pace and Cody didn't know how to cover. Maybe it was Cody's fault for not wrestling a pace, unlike Roman, which suited Punk. I don't know, but really hated it. Main event was shit too. Brock has proper 'kid who suggests disembowling bees for fun at a birthday party' vibes. 'HEY, WOULDN'T IT BE FUN IF I INEXPLICABLY HIT A TOMBSTONE ON WOOD AND DID THE UNDERTAKER COVER?' No. It would not be fun. It would be annoying, as the finish of the match ends up being Oba having to awkwardly try and not powerbomb you on that same wood, taking everyone out of it. Really didn't enjoy the show. The Bloodline house show match was alright, and Solo is good. Happy for Nick Aldis, but it really felt like a one and done for him and no one had told him or Mickie. Mickie looked at the end like 'why are we being thrown in the ring.. he'll have another match.. won't he? ...guys?' Bad show. Put the title on Solo. Edited August 2 by d-d-d-dAz Quote
DavidB6937 Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Punk/Cody really brought things down I thought, as it should've been far better than it was. Don't really know why it didn't click but yeah, I wasn't fussed. Brock/Oba was fine for what it was. I don't think they've cooled Oba down by doing the long route but I also don't think they've got anything better out of it. Other stuff happened I think. I'll probably get through Night 2 in an hour on repeat. Quote

Metaphorically or physically I think it’s both. some more WWE AI bullshit I have nothing positive about night 1, except watching it on a discord with some friends and seeing that entrance mask, that trailer and then that match was a fun time if nothing else. The main event was awful. 20 minutes to put a cage round a ring that was never used. Could have just been a no DQ or hardcore match. Kicking out at after a Tombstone to the exposed wood, to succumb to a single powebomb in the ring was awful. Edited August 2 by Hannibal Scorch Quote
Paid Members Callum1993 Posted August 2 Paid Members Posted August 2 A decent show overall for me. Thought the Liv/Iyo match was excellent. The 6 man tag was fine and good to see Solo excelling as a face. Gunther/Aldis was fine for what it was albeit for me Gunther’s act is getting a bit stale. The 6 Woman tag suffered with Brie clearly getting injured early on but the correct decision to turn the Bellas. Seems inevitable they’ll recreate AJ/Paige vs the Bellas feud from back in the day. I enjoyed Punk and Cody and good to see Orton back. Hopefully their feud this time around won’t have all the unnecessary Mcafee shit around it. Main event did what it set out to do with Oba going over strong. I don’t think this will be it for Brock and sure he’ll be at Saudi Mania next year to lose to Gunther. The card for night 2 looks worse on paper so let’s hope it overdelivers. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted August 2 Members Posted August 2 Watched 3x matches and they were all good to very good. Aldis vs Gunther was slow, and I've got no idea why they're feuding (I'll be honest, same as everyone on this show) but I liked it, good of them to shell out for Oasis for him as well. I absolutely loved Punk vs Rhodes, and although a bit sloppy in places (that top roper cutter was absolutely shit) I feel it added to the charm. Punk has been in brilliant form this year. Oba vs Lesnar was great, but kicking out of a tombstone onto the wood? Not for me Clive. No interest in anything else, so a decent 90 minutes PPV. Was the Brie Bella match any good? I guess I'll never know! Moment of the night for me, Randy has been having such a laugh these last couple of years, its really nice to see. Dunno if I can be arsed with anything tonight. Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted August 2 Paid Members Posted August 2 First press conference in months and he’s already back delivering absolutely belters. That line, from that man. Incredible. Unless he considers himself the one percent? Quote
AndyUK Posted August 2 Posted August 2 It was alright. Nothing particularly bad but definitely a bit of a glorified TV show feel until the final two matches. I did enjoy Punk v Cody more that most to be fair, was quite an old school wrestling match for the first half of or so. Not sure why Punk felt the need to try things like that moonsault or the announce table spot though, he's more likely to injure himself again than pull it off. Fantastic worker, but he's never been that type of athlete, nevermind now. Brock/Oba was fine. I didn't have any real expectations of it being an epic HIAC match anyway, because the schtick Brock has been doing for the past 10 years wasn't suddenly going to change. But it did the job, even if you could say we didn't need to see this match 3 times. I've actually got a sneaky feeling night 2 will be the better show you know. It looked like the bigger matches were on this show, but I think the better wrestling will be on this one. Quote
SoloJones Posted August 2 Posted August 2 For a company that seems intent on producing mostly slop, paying out to get the rights to Morning Glory was a lovely touch. Match was fun too, couldn't really care less about anything else on the show though. Quote
