25/26 Football thread DEAD, USE A NEW ONE

Lawrence Shankland joining Rangers is the gut punch to a gut punch when it comes to Hearts’ season. I was hoping they’d keep their squad together to mount some kind of run at the title next year, but I don’t think that’s likely now. And if you were Shankland, Braga, Devlin or anyone else in that side, why wouldn’t you want to move to a club that could pay you more? It’s disappointing, but it’s how it goes. 

I feel bitter regardless. I understand your choice Lawrence, but booooo all the same.

I wasn't at the game, but my Dad was staying with me for it, and even just around London I have never known vibes like it - aside from bumping into jubilant Hull supporters everywhere, we just had random people and supporters of other clubs coming up to us and either wishing us luck or congratulating us depending on whether it was pre- or post- game. Obviously Spygate has been a total shitshow, but on the day it created this atmosphere of pretty much everyone seeing Hull as the deserving winners and sharing in the moment with them, and I just can't see that ever being repeated. What a day!

People Saying Di Zerbi celebrating is embarrassing and tin pot, and on the surface it probably is. If you think about it though, his target was to take a confidence bereft Spurs side that looked dead and buried for me after the Forest hammering, organise them, instil belief and keep them. He did that. He did what he was appointed to do first, so to him it WILL be a huge acheivement.

Next year will be interesting from a Spurs point of view now. After watching the success Arsenal have after the big reset and rebuild(and keeping faith with Arteta), thats really got to be what approach Spurs take. They would be stupid not to(so obviously wont!)

Celebration police are one of the worst things about modern football* Did me and my youngest go absolutely mental when Palhinha scored and when the whistle went? Of course, the whole stadium did. It was pure relief in the moment and that's all football is, moments. 

Am I embarrassed to be in that position and the way 90% of the season has gone? Of course. #RelegationGarth

We learn, we ship out and we have a full season without European football (which is shite, but may be a blessing for a year) and I'm really excited for next season (this'll last probably 3 days)

*the actual worst thing is EVERYONE having the same songs. Everyone has an allez allez allez song (which are always shit and such a dirge) and nothing is unique anymore.

What a day that was. Finally seeing us getting our hands on the title again and continuing the celebrations from Tuesday night when confirmed as champions. I'm going to remember this until the day I die, getting to share this moment with my kids for the first time in their life's, unreal. And to think when you can't imagine the feeling getting any better, we could be celebrating winning the European cup on top come Saturday evening in Budapest. Fanstastic season, time to finish it off in style.

There was one Boro fan waiting for his train home yesterday and as the whole train departed at Waterloo, every fan travelling in, whether Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham or other, all did a binoculars gesture as they spotted them with a collective "wheeeeeeeeeey" he laughed it all off and it was GOOD OLD FASHIONED BANTER.

Everyone, except Boro and Pompey fans, wanted Hull to win.

As much as I'm obviously elated to stay up, being pragmatic, I feel sorry for West Hams fans. Again, of course in the moment I was happy they went down at our expense, but that's normal isn't it?

Having to play in that awful stadium, no fault of their own, having to watch bad decision after bad decision regarding their club and seemingly having their team not give a shit for the last couple of weeks, it's rough, and just like us the last couple of months, they turn up every week home and away.

I can't imagine Bowen or Fernandes will be hanging around (neither will Summerville but I don't think he's all that) however I have no doubt they'll come straight back up, but something needs to drastically change at the top.

A Hammer mate told me that one of the dubious bonuses of going down is that they'll be paying less stadium rent as part of the contract they negotiated with the London mayoralty.

Yep. My mate mentioned that article as well, hence why he referred to it as a dubious bonus.

Additionally, it was negotiated when BJ was mayor, so it reflects his life ethos, i.e. being rewarded for failure.

And to think it could have been Spurs playing in that stadium...

I know things haven't been rosy but at least you have your own stadium and it feels more like a home (plus the Beyonce concerts are surely better).

Yes totally naturally that mate, and I can imagine how happy you all are because for weeks it looked like it was not going to end well at all and then it all just fell into place with the last few games of the season. 

The club now needs a whole restructuring, shameful stuff what's gone on behind the scenes and that's just stiff people are privy too, no doubt there is all sorts going on as it hasn't looked good for a while now, and the lack or urgency from the players at times is a sure sign of disarray everywhere. 

Yes Fernandes will definitely be off, and Bowen, despite his contract and strong insistance on staying, is another one who you can't be too suprised about him leaving, and the club may very well be in a position to have to sell as well at some stage as the situation at the top is all over the place. 

We'll be back, when, who knows, it's not great right now but I'm still WHTID 😭

I don't even want to talk about the Boleyn vs London Stadium 🤣
