I think Jey Uso winning is great, fuck if he isn't a top level worker to our stupid jaded eyes. Good for him. I'm 37 and know who iShowSpeed is because my partner who is older than me but gives a shit about internet drama because we all have our faults, exposed me to him a bit. I find him an annoying cunt and if the kids like him then maybe the boomers are right.

Didn't watch, read the results, mens rumble didn't look like it had a shit structure. Will probably catch the ladder match.

Well, this thread is fun.

Jey Uso winning is probably one of the better decisions they've made. So often they'll go with the big name, or pick a winner based on a plan that's already clear for everyone to see.

This year, they actually did what people have been begging them to do for years; they actually struck whilst the iron was hot on someone who the fans have decided is a superstar.

I really don't like Jey Uso in the ring or on the mic, but he's so over. They'd be mad not to act, and under the new(ish) administration they've decided that's what they'll do. Good for them.

Is he the most talented? No. Does that equal being what someone deserves? No, not really. It's not a real sport and there should be an element of going with fans at times. Especially as it's not a hollow support, he's shifting merch and tickets for them.

So, yeah, fine winner. Brave booking. Great stuff.

The men's Rumble was a tale of two halves. Pre-Roman it was fine if a little mid-card, post-Roman it was tremendous fun.

Jacob Fatu and Bron Breakker vs anyone please. Thrilling young talent. That spear on ISowSeeds was incredible.

I didn't actually love the ladder match, I thought it felt a bit plodding at times. I'm not a huge ladder match fan, and they're usually only useful as a platform for flyers to jump off. With two non-flyers it felt a bit stilted, and like I'd rather watch a proper match. Some crazy bumps though, and the final sprint was great.

I thought the Women's Rumble had good points, but a lot of shit. So scruffy in places, and lots of lying around waiting for spots. I thought Charlotte's gear was the real low point. Those fake-tan coloured trousers were the pits, but probably the right winner. Bianca's little 2 minute run after entering the match was a lot of fun.

It strikes me that the gulf in class between the handful of top women talent they do have, and everyone else, is still as stark as it's ever been. I don't understand why they persist with so many small female wrestlers, when there's no reason they couldn't be promoting more physical athletes.

Rhea, Bianca, Cargill if she ever gets good, Chelsea Green because she's funny, maybe Jordynne Grace, Nia Jax when she's not killing people. These are wrestlers I can get behind.

Alexa Bliss looks like she'd get whiplash in a breeze. It's just not good to watch.

LA Knight was as over 12 months ago. He got nothing, but he was as over. I’d also say he’s a better worker and delivers a better promo. Yeet is in danger of becoming the new What. He’s had some high notable stinkers, such as vs Jimmy at Mania last year. With Cena’s retirement run, Punk, Roman and I hate to say it Logan Paul, can you honestly say it was the right choice just due to fan reaction?

Edit regarding LA Knight and Scorch’s post. Give me Jey over Knight any day. Both shite in the ring and white catchphrases but I enjoy Jey overrall. Knight ever winning the rumble would be a terrible thing.

I’m far from Jey USO’s biggest fan but that was absolutely the correct decision last night. He’s  arguably the most over guy on the roster and that’s just cemented him as Main Event Jey Uso. He absolutely deserves it if you look at the work he’s put in over the last 5 years to make himself feel relevant and get out of the shadow of the tag team. Even comparing him to Jimmy and how much more of a star Jey is despite them being twins it’s night and day.
 

I think it closes night 1 of Mania rather than night 2 however. They also set up a number of other matches for Mania. I think it’ll look something like this at the top end:

Cody/Punk WWE Title

Jey/Gunther World Title

Reigns/Rollins

Logan/Cena

Owens/Sami 

McIntyre/Priest 

Overall really enjoyed the show.

I've been a big Usos guy for a long time - even back before the whole Bloodline saga brought them into top of the card storylines, I was of the opinion they were probably a top 5 all time WWE tag team (first time I recall expressing that our loud was during whatever Mania it was they were in the 4-way that included the Bludgeon Brothers). I therefore say the following through an affectionate lens:

It's fun to think that presumed tag team lifer Jey Uso's ascent to main event of WrestleMania popularity tr began with him turning up impaired for a press conference.

I honestly don’t understand your logic. Wrestlemania is still going to have all those guys on it who are already made. This is an opportunity to make Jey a bonafide main event player. Cena is in his last year, Logan is part time, How many more years do Reigns and Punk have left at the top level? 2/3? And they’ll both likely be working a part time schedule(well Roman basically has been for the last 5 years) They need top faces to step up. They’ve done it by making Cody over the past few years and they can do it now with Jey. LA Knight absolutely can be a top star from them as well and he’s already had big moments over the last few years. But right now pulling the trigger on Jey is absolutely the right call.

Yeah, because he's stayed over despite those stinkers which suggests it's not a flash in the pan.

Cena, Punk and Roman remain as big a stars today as they've ever been.

Jey Uso just won what they're billing as the biggest and best Royal Rumble ever, and is going to probably win his first World Title at Wrestlemania.

Yeah, I'd say it's probably a decent choice and helps cement someone in a position the fans have put them in.

There was no Cody to crown this year, if the stars had aligned for LA Knight last year he could have been a good choice too. But they didn't.

I just don't think match quality matters to most people in the way it might to us.

I'd never wish ill on anyone, but I hope Seth Rollins wakes up today and decides it's better for everyone if he at least pretends to be injured for six months or so.

It broke my heart when Punk/Roman/Cena all paused for the next big entrance, and his music hit.

His run in the match was fine, but the way he went out almost felt like they were building a triple Threat Match and... fuck that. 

Hopefully they're just using that to build into Elimination Chamber, but honestly he's far too close to the stuff I actually care about right now.

What's his tireless work that he's put in? It's not in the ring, that's for sure.

He's co-opted a popular bit of Gen Z slang, it caught on, then WWE's merchandise and production department latched onto it. You see WWE meticulously mapping out these elaborate entrances all the time, they put out videos on it, Triple H showed one the other day for someone.

His promos can be alright once in a while when he gets serious, but it's mostly random YEETing as a crutch. If you go back to the Usos days, Jey always had that.

Just struggling to see what massive hard work Jey put in to get over. I think he struck gold with that stupid word, The Machine carefully curated the merch and entrance, and now he gets to reap the benefits by having the worst World Title match to ever happen at WrestleMania.

And if you want to say it was his tag team work that put him there, why isn't it Jimmy and his "tireless work" in the main event of WM41?
