Trolling (UKFF and wider)

So, having chatted to a few people, I think it's probably fair to say there was at least some overreaction on my side. I'll also clarify that I genuinely don't think anyone was attempting to divide people by talking about anything in the first place.

This place has turned out to mean a lot to me. I'm genuine about having seen what the bullshit of the past has meant to some people. The idea that, for some people, this was still secretly going on and they were enjoying winding people up, especially after so long - that got to me. A lot more than I expected. I don't think I was the only one taken aback to find out about it. And I think reactions to that being new info are also valid.

I let it get to me for a couple of reasons, and because any discussions about it were actually pretty vague, it maybe gave space for misinterpretations and getting the wrong end of the stick. For me, it festered a bit, I got increasingly pissed off and I thought posting about it was the right thing to do.

Spoken to a few people since, and - as with most things - it's rather more nuanced and less cut-and-dried than I'd interpreted it as. At the very least, it's probably fair to say this is all significantly more 'old friends chatting' than primarily about winding up and trolling.

I'm up for assuming good faith, and hope everyone gets that I was operating as such as well. I thought Loki's post earlier was good as well, and he made some fair points.

Also, clearly, I take this place a bit too seriously.

Finally, if you want to know what's going on in the paid forums, donate and help keep this place going. There's a barrier, but it's not an incredibly secret club either. I also promise it's mostly pretty boring because, again, we're all wrestling fans in our 30s and 40s.

I'm glad to read this. I'd have struggled to have identified any examples of @Loki derailing threads. His contributions are thoughtful and interesting, especially when it comes to the games industry. I've said it before, but I hold @Keith Houchen in very high regard. I think @David and I have very different views politically - but enjoy his posts, and his take on the world of politics; even if he's yet to persuade me to buy into his way of thinking.

Absolutely, you don't need to justify your own reaction. This place means a lot to me too. In the 'real world', I don't talk much about wrestling with anyone. And that was my gateway into this place, and the brilliant community that comes with it. It's one of the reasons I've never been a fan of the negative awards on here - meant in good spirit, but unless someone is being a bigot or troll, I don't want anyone to feel like they need to modify their opinions or thoughts on here. I enjoy reading takes that don't match up with mine, and they're frequently persuasive - heck, I've changed my view based on differing opinions on here and strongly made points.

There's a real tendency to say there are great 'posters' on here - I often use that word myself - but in truth, there are just great people. It's a brilliant little place.

I wouldn't say that. I'd say it means something to all of us in various different ways and that's okay.

I remember when - well, quite frankly I was going through some shit years ago and I was a complete dick and took it out on the wrong people and was on the wind up myself and ended up banned. And that was the stupidest thing I'd done online because I'd completely self destructed and ruined one of the few places I genuinely enjoyed. To this day I look back and think what a loss that would've been.

It's like when you consider message boards and stuff can just disappear and then what? I'm not ashamed to say it'd leave a massive hole in my day to day existence because it's one of the very few places I feel comfortable. I'm a very insular person and I don't socialise a ton and a bunch of other shit too so it's just nice to have somewhere to escape to. Somewhere I learn and laugh and just feel a part of something. Perhaps still occasionally an annoying part, but on the whole I like to consider myself a (mostly) more mature and genuine and positive person.

So no. You don't take things too seriously. It's good to care.

I'd like to donate and not join Paid. Is that an option?

Welcome to the Paidonts!

To be fair I got automatic membership because Moo logs in like once a decade or whatever the fuck.

Bit disappointed in this thread. I thought I was getting a Rooney versus Vardy that I could be invested in but it turns out we're all just a sad bunch of old men with varying senses of humour. I was fantasy booking a Frankie Crisp heel turn and everything.

Should see what he's saying about you in the secret forum mate. At one point he called you Postman Twat.

I wouldn't be having that.

I've been a member of this forum since 2002 which is ridiculous when you think about it. It's even more ridiculous when the last time I actually watched wrestling was when AJ Styles turned on Cena with them 2 bald lads about 10 years ago.

Yet I still visit this place every day - even though I rarely post in anything apart from the Cricket Thread.

I'd hate to think that anyone isn't sound to each other, so I'm glad it's kind of sorted. There's been some weirdos over the years like him who wore that pink vest, but it's OK really.

If you want a positive coming out of this then it encouraged me to throw a tenner at Moo to keep it going. I've been coming to this forum in some form for 20 years now (my original account now lost to the void) and it's always a nice little mental break through otherwise stressful days.
