TheScarlettChad Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 Wonder why the other lads aren't involved anymore. Quote

theringmaster Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 I liked the Regal podcast but i did snigger at his rant about how wwe uk was not started in response to World of Sport, he got genuinely annoyed and angry the more he tried to deny it? I have always been sus of his 'background', he sort of talks as if he came through in the 70's yet he's clearly barely more than a kid in those final World of Sport eps. (There's a huge amount of irony he was featured in the final World of Sport ep and yet was actively competing against it's revival) Quote
davertfnewman Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 For contrast, compare Regal to his old partner Robbie Brookside, who's never really come out with the suspect stories and been pretty straightforward about having to work constantly to keep a roof over his head, with no stories of getting the better of anyone. Dave Taylor's brilliant on everything he's been on, with loads of stories on the likes of Les Kellett, Mal Kirk, etc. Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted August 20, 2025 Paid Members Posted August 20, 2025 I think Regal's podcast could have worked with a better co-host, because I still found him engaging, but the guy he was doing it with was useless. You get the impression with Regal that, outside of a handful of stories, he doesn't actually care about his career in the US all that much, the stuff he actually has passion for is British wrestling, and everything after that was just the job. But he had a co-host who knew nothing about British wrestling, so had no follow-up questions, and couldn't guide Regal's train of thought the way a good host should - and he was barely any better when it came to American wrestling either. In terms of Regal's reputation; he's clearly a tough old bloke, as I think most wrestlers of his generation were - he worked half his career with a serious neck injury, and you don't make it through that Uncensored match with Fit Finlay without being able to take some serious hits and not let it knock you off your game, and I think someone like Dave Taylor would have called him out on it if he felt it was all completely unearned. It's when he starts implying connections to shady underworld figures and hard men that it gets all a bit chinny reckon. Quote
davertfnewman Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 (edited) Yeah, there's no doubt there's some physical toughness, although there was some handling that with pills and booze to get through (understandably). And he was a physically impressive guy, big and tall and in shape in his initial Lord/Blue Bloods run until the period where he's having aeroplane misadventures. But there's a lot of Jackanory with him too. I rewatched the Before They Were Superstars thing and his impressive Blackpool hard-nut stories were kicking a drunk in the face as they got through the ropes "as hard as I could" and getting glassed in Uncle Peter's (made me wonder if that related to his mate Peter Thompson or Peter "Kendo" Thornley). Where Dave Taylor differs is he's told stories on himself where people ate him up and he was scared shitless. Standing up to Les Kellett would take some guts, but you can tell in his Colt Cabana story he's glad it didn't get physical. Edited August 20, 2025 by davertfnewman Quote
Paid Members DCW Posted August 20, 2025 Paid Members Posted August 20, 2025 I must try and dig up my old Highspots account and watch that Dave Taylor shoot again, doesn't seem to have made it to Youtube or Dailymotion. Hilarious interview. Quote
davertfnewman Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 "We hear you do a pretty good impression of Sarge (Buddy Lee Parker)." "Who, me? No! But all you'd have to say is DO FUCKING SQUATS! SQUAT!" Quote

davertfnewman Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 Been watching some of those this morning. Love the Waldo poster in the dressing room in one of them. Quote
Paid Members Statto Posted August 20, 2025 Paid Members Posted August 20, 2025 I'm a fan of the Rib Shot stuff in general, and the Taylor stuff is definitely my favourite. Quote
davertfnewman Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 I watched the Mexico one and the story of his brother working there, which results in a cut to him with a tan JUST where his skin wasn't covered by a lucha mask, was brilliant. Quote
SaitoRyo Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 Oh yeah, I'm a big fan of Rib Shot's stuff and assumed it was somebody who either posts on here or had some sort of connection. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted September 7, 2025 Members Posted September 7, 2025 The new OSW on Wrestlemania 21 is a cracker. I didn't watch wrestling in this era so it's been really fun to see most of this for the first time. Think it's now up on YouTube. They also covered Princess Mononoke and The Longest Yard recently on their Patreon, and they are both superb as well. It's the only one I sub to as I appreciate the amount of effort that goes into it all, and it's well worth it IMO. Quote
Liam O'Rourke Posted September 22, 2025 Posted September 22, 2025 Since I never posted the links here, for those who listened to the old SCG Monday Night War Timeline shows, the latest episodes (which are huge) talking May and June 2000 in the WWF and WCW are available here: The WWF In May And June 2000 Covering all things big and small in this period, including the good, the bad and the ugly of Iron Man Match between The Rock and Triple H, the use of Shawn Michaels, the return of the Undertaker and Kane to the main event picture, the exciting midcard scene loading up with new personalities getting over, a shockingly poor King of the Ring PPV with a hideous finish in the main event, and the WWF starts putting pieces in place for the second half of the year... WCW In May And June 2000 WHERE TO BEGIN!?!? We're breaking down the hideous New Blood angle, Russo and Bischoff as your hot new superstars, FUNB Hogan, Kevin Nash destroying the midcard, Ric Flair and Vince Russo feuding in horrific fashion, hot potatoes get offended at the constant passing of the WCW Title, Goldberg inexplicably turns heel, Sting and Vampiro take us all to the dark side, David Arquette's reign as WCW Champion and much, much, MUCH more... Both episodes are super long, we considered going the Wrestle Me route of posting an hour a week and stretching it out, but screw it. Also, posting this now as the next episode covering the WWF in July and August 2000 will be out on Wednesday. Quote
