I often think Whitehall must pinch himself to be living the life he leads - even he couldn't have expected when his appearances on TV became more frequent that he would end up starring in a movie with The Rock. No-one would expect Skandar Akbar to be name checked on Graham Norton. Fucking hell, Jamie Oliver is such an unabashed, flag-shagging, pandering wanker. "Yeah we had Big Daddy! And the GIANT HAYSTACK!" What an utter twat. A Celebrity Twat, as it were.

Paid Members Tommy! Posted November 7, 2023 Paid Members Share Posted November 7, 2023 Off topic, and I believe he's a twat in his own right, but I stumbled on a run of videos of Mr Rodger taking the piss out of Oliver which brightened my day On topic I saw Jimmy White at a smackdown taping. IronSheik
Michael Stipe name dropped "Mr Fred Blassie" and "Andy Kaufman in the wrestling match" in R.E.M.'s 'Man on the Moon' song so I reckon he's a wrestling mark.

He’s an Andy Kaufman mark more than he is a wrestling one. The song is a tribute to Kaufman’s career as a whole, of which wrestling was a big part

Only problem is that George had been dead for years by then, so it's either bollocks, or someone scammed her. There's an old interview with Lydia Lunch where she talks about going to WWF shows with JG Thirlwell and Debbie Harry, being a massive Road Warriors fan, and having a crush on Bret Hart. Between them, Warhol and Andy Kaufman, there could be a great history to be written about the connections between the WWF of the late '70s and early '80s, and the New York underground. Debbie Harry was also in a wrestling play. She had to have training and everything for it. Andy Kaufman played a ref. Teaneck Tanzi. It closed the day it opened. Which was titled after the song of the same name. It’s fair to say Kaufman was a wrestling fan. Feud with Lawler as a vehicle for himself notwithstanding, Breakfast With Blassie being virtually his last work. “Thank you very much.” Edited November 10, 2023 by air_raid

I've always wondered why the lyric was "Mr Fred Blassie in a breakfast mess". Noel Gallagher is a bona-fide wrestling fan. He especially loved the attitude era and has spoken about that. It was based on a British play, Trafford Tanzi, that ran a lot more successfully here that it did in the US. Toyah Wilcox appeared in it for a run. As far as rock and pop stars doing wrestling stuff go, both The Mountain Goats and Luke Haines have done wrestling-themed albums, and Haines has done exhibitions of paintings of old British wrestlers too. For some mad historical ones, Aleister Crowley's diaries refer to going to watch the All-In Wrestling during WW2, and winning free tickets on the raffle, and P.G. Wodehouse referenced wrestling and George Hackenschmidt in a ton of his books and poems.
The Reverend
Comedian Rob Beckett took his WWF Hasbros on 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown. Dear old Kenneth Williams wrote in his infamous diaries "16/5/64 We motored down to Brighton. All clientele dreadful but the hotel is good. In the evening we went to a wrestling match. It was obviously rigged" No pulling the wool over Kenny's eyes.
