Currently have all the doors and windows open while working from home. Yesterday a wounded pigeon wandered in through the front door. Unfortunately my greyhound saw it before me and couldn’t believe her luck as she can never get near birds despite her burning hatred of the magpies who visit the garden. From what I could see though, she had only managed to get a mouthful of feathers before I broke it up. No sign of any blood, only feathers and (understandably!) quite a lot of poop.

Kept it isolated in the kitchen for a bit and one of its legs was knackered. Opened the patio doors and let it into the back garden and it couldn’t walk or  get any lift at all. No more than a foot off the ground.

Tried local pigeon rescues in the area but they were all either out of town or closed until the end of summer. So I wrangled the pigeon using a big towel and created a wee nest using a Gousto delivery box. Put a little water dish in there and took it up to the local vet.

On examination they found the wing injury but it had already scabbed over and looked older, so hadn’t been caused by the dog. Seems the poor thing was already injured and had waddled in looking for shelter, unfortunately picking entirely the wrong house.

So it looked like it already had a bad wing and then probably injured the leg in the scuffle trying to get away from my dog, but again no sign of any blood or fresh wounds.

Called the vet today and they said the leg was treatable by them and he was picked up by a bird rescue this morning to rehab the wing and eventually be released. Felt sure they were going to put it to sleep so I am very chuffed indeed with this result!

Pre-ordered a copy of Titan by Rob Grant and Andy Marshall earlier this year, which was supposed to come out in June but rather inevitably got delayed by Rob Grant's untimely death earlier this year. Emailed the Big Green Bookshop (normally I don't do advertising, but reasons will become clear) earlier this afternoon asking for an update. Not in an arsey "where's my book?" way, as obviously it's something completely out of their control. I didn't get an emailed reply, he phoned me to explain everything that was going on. That's customer service that I like.

It's rubbish round here for bird spotting (insert Bottom meme). Newish build estate by the coast, so hedges and trees are lacking. It's all seagulls, magpies and armies of starlings.

So seeing one of these little chaps munching on a dandelion earlier made my day.

European Goldfinch, not my picture btw.

I used to see them all the time in Sefton park in Liverpool. Lovely looking little things.

Sound the soppy klaxon,  but honestly, posting here again a bit.
I LIVED here once upon a time, and have always read consistently even when not posting, but it’s been great just trying to get back out there a little bit.

I apologise in advance if I’m popping up too often! One thing I’ve really struggled with in recent years is being consistent, and having been recently diagnosed with ADHD at the ripe old age of 45 - @Monkee you’re the BEST by the way - it’s been a lot to get my head around, and so I’ve found the best way to keep things up is to try and make them habit again, a little bit daily, rebuilt a couple of since lost friendships that way just by making a conscious effort to text daily even if nothing to say, now it’s almost muscle memory, so I’m benefitting from that emotionally, even if the price for that is you lot having to listen to my inane ramblings more often.
