Thr old lady from next door was wandering around with her two pairs of cinema 3D glasses trying to get a proper view. Paid Members Chris B Posted August 13 Paid Members Posted August 13 Loved it. Only found out it was happening the other day, which is a bit embarrassing for something predicted so far in advance. A couple of days ago, I joined a WhatsApp group for a company selling eclipse glasses and giving out locations - it was about 1,500 people when I joined and 10,000 the following day. I managed, after queuing for 40 minutes in Shoreditch, to get a pair for me and my partner. We walked to a small local park with a good view. In one of the 'things that cheer you up' bit with people, there were a bunch of young people around, and a couple politely asked if they could borrow the glasses - and the sharing side of it was just really nice. They were all really nice and polite, passing them around their friends, and giving them back with thanks. Honestly, it was all lovely. The only drawback was that the path was so badly burnt/yellowed by the sun. It's honestly kind of terrifying at the moment. Quote
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted August 13 Moderators Posted August 13 I forgot the most hilarious interaction of yesterday when some fella who had borrowed one of our pairs of glasses offered them to his curmudgeon dad who was with him to have a look, and the old boy just went 'nah, I'm alright' with an Alan Partridge shrug off utter indifference. Why was he even there? Don't stress about the grass, Chris. It's super resilient. If it's straggly like that then it'll come back luscious green in a couple rains. It's only when it's ground to dust you should worry. Quote
Awards Moderator Frankie Crisp Posted August 14 Awards Moderator Posted August 14 Got the notification today that the latest update to the Everton mosaic at the new ground is ready, and my old man’s on it. Not just on it, but is now Dixie Dean’s beauty spot. I’d already planned to go to the ground on the morning of the wedding to have a gab with him at his stone, but now knowing I can see his face has knocked me for six and will be the best way to start the big day. DavidB6937 Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Went to Legoland with my girls today. Thankfully the morning at least was reasonable weather-wise. The afternoon was a bit muggy. It was incredibly bittersweet as we haven't been since we lost their brother and they're very good at "oh remember when.." moments. I love that they love talking about him but it takes so much to hold it all together for them. Just got home and absolutely lost it, which probably isn't the best thing to say in a cheering up topic, but it's so difficult having fun days without him. I'm glad they had fun and I'm glad they don't forget him but yeah, just a crazy mix of emotions really. Quote
