Paid Members Jazzy G Posted December 16, 2021 Paid Members Posted December 16, 2021 If we're going by Pat's logic then This Is Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind are musicals as well, and they're not. They're films about music, but every song that's performed in the film is a part of the narrative of the movie, rather than the spontaneous musical numbers characters break into. A bit like Bohemian Rhapsody. Quote

A bit like Bohemian Rhapsody. They are both (Mock)documentaries. That’s another genre entirely. Bohemian Rhapsody is shit. Remi Malik is probably the best I’ve seen him, but that’s a low bar. Oh, and nice to see the kid from Jurassic Park turn up as one of Queen without the flamboyance or poodle hair. So which ever one’s are left from there. Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted December 16, 2021 Paid Members Posted December 16, 2021 Exactly like I said, not musicals. Quote

I don’t either if I’m honest. I’m just going by the dictionary definition. Maybe the UKFF can start a campaign to get the definition changed Quote

Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted December 16, 2021 Paid Members Posted December 16, 2021 We need to think carefully about how we're defining musicals here, because The Blues Brothers is fucking brilliant, so if we're counting it as a musical then we're all going to have to agree that not all musicals are rubbish. King Coconut Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 According to the OED: Originally U.S. A play or film in which singing and dancing play an essential part. So Back to the Future is a musical but Bohemian Rhapsody isn't. Quote
