THE GOOD
Best Women's Wrestler

Dr Britt Baker, DMD - She holds the AEW Women’s division on her shoulders.

Hikaru Shida - not on Dynamite nearly as often as she should be but consistently good to watch.

Sasha Banks - I’m not sure I’ve seen more than the odd clip of WWE since WrestleMania, but Sasha gets a nom for her Mania match alone.

Tay Conti - most improved, at least.

Best Men's Wrestler

Hangman Adam Page - it has to be Hangman, doesn’t it? I’ve been desperate for him to succeed virtually all year and HE DID IT!

PAC - I’ll always nominate this bastard because he’s always bloody excellent.

Jungle Boy - he keeps getting better and better. That new theme song is one more part of what’s becoming a complete package.

Best Tag Team

Young Bucks - never thought I’d think this but now they’ve leaned into being dicks they’re often one of my favourite parts of a show.

Jurassic Express - dinosaurs and Jungle Boys and, recently, no Marko. What’s not to like.

Varsity Blondes - better together than as separate singles, not often on the main shows but always fun when they are.

Best British Wrestler

PAC - assuming he’s eligible. He’s probably not. I’m barely aware that British Wrestling has started up again after last year, if I’m honest

Best Event

AEW All Out - a top to bottom great show.

AEW Grand Slam

Royal Rumble - those awful video game entrance blurry cam things aside, I’m a sucker for the Rumble and the ten million camera cuts didn’t seem quite as bad in January.

Best Wrestling Show

AEW Dynamite

Best Feud or Angle

Hangman Page vs Kenny Omega - the slowest of slow burns with the biggest ups and downs of any story in recent memory.

Funniest Moment

The Dark Order backstage - I don’t have a particular one, but any of them will do

Best Heel

Kenny Omega - he’s a smug dickhead and I wanted him to lose

Young Bucks - both smug dickheads I wanted to lose

Bryan Danielson - it’s only been a couple of weeks but he’s so so good at this.

Best Babyface

Hangman Adam Page - obviously.

Sting - for that time he stood absolutely still as Darby Allin rocketed past him on a dive and Sting was the coolest man on the planet.

Eddie Kingston - from his team with Moxley to the article he wrote last month, how can you not support Eddie?

Best Podcast

Wrestle Me - in the almost complete absence of SCG again this year, Wrestle Me is my one and only wrestling podcast. It’s also great, so that works out.

Moment of the Year

CM Punk debuts in AEW - that reaction! I’ve not heard anything close in years. Except for…

Hangman and the Dark Order enter at Fight For The Fallen - goosebumps. Just like…

Hangman returns to win the Casino Ladder Match - this. What a pop!

WrestleMania is delayed by rain - unscripted promos, frantic scrambling to fill time, spontaneous off the cuff WWE. The most I've enjoyed it in years.

Match of the Year

Kenny Omega vs Bryan Danielson, AEW Grand Slam - 30 minutes of brilliant wrestling that just flew by.

Britt Baker vs Thunder Rosa, Lights Out match - I don’t like blood and gore much usually, but this match made Britt a superstar.

PAC vs Andrade el Idolo, Rampage - either of their two singles matches, both were tremendous. Whichever one gets the most other noms, stick my name on that!

Promo of the Year

Eddie Kingston and CM Punk, Rampage, 5th? November - magic stuff. Eddie is the best.

CM Punk’s return promo, Rampage, 21st? August - everything it needed to be.

Eddie Kingston generally - I know you said to be specific but he’s consistently great so…

THE BAD
Biggest Letdown

The ‘exploding ring’ at AEW Revolution - they managed to recover from it thanks to Mox and Kingston but this was not good, not good. I don’t like death matches but even I wanted something more than this.

Keith Lee - a couple of times it looked like they were going somewhere with him, then didn’t, then didn’t, then he was gone.

Becky Lynch returns - what a waste.

Worst Wrestler

Alexa Bliss - mainly for the magically winking doll.

Joe Gacy - the ‘snowflake’ gimmick he’s doing sounds terrible.

Worst Match

Adam Cole vs Kyle O’Reilly, NXT Takeover - the peak/nadir of self indulgent NXT 1.0. It went on for years and Butch’s old quote about epics comes to mind.

The Fiend vs Randy Orton, WrestleMania - only redeeming part was they didn’t have a doll that magically winked.

Worst Event

Whichever episode of RAW it was where the doll magically winked.

Worst TV Show

RAW - if I have to be specific, the episode where the doll magically winked.

THE GOOD
Best Women's Wrestler

Dr Britt Baker - Yeah I know, she's still not at the best level, but she's improved no end and has basically carried the AEW Women's division thru 2021.

- Thunder Rosa - Her feud with Britt culminating in the excellent Lights Out match cemented her place in AEW, and led in part to her #5 ranking in the PWI

Best Men's Wrestler

- PAC - Wherever he's been involved this year, he lives up to his "bastard" moniker. Consistently one of the best workers, and able to carry pretty much anyone to a good or even great match.

- Roman Reigns - The Head of the Table has been about the only authentic worker IMO in the "sports entertainment" side of the biz. Carried the blue brand with his solid heel work.

- Mox - The no-nonsense, straight shooting "Wild Thing". In ring work - solid, Promo - saved the damp squib exploding ring, and until his departure, his promos felt real and believeable.

Best Tag Team

- Young Bucks - Their heel work (and shoe work) was cartoonish but not outrageous for the gimmick.

- Lucha Bros - With few exceptions, every match they've been involved with has been great. While at times it can feel spotty (also see Young Bucks), when it's smooth, it's smooth like silk
Best British Wrestler

PAC - as above

Best Event

- All Out - Excellent show throughout, a little long, but every fan got the pay off when Page got the 3 and the celebration with DO

Best Feud or Angle

- Page/Omega - The build to the pay off was top tier, and even if you telegraphed the result, it was worth the wait

- Baker/Rosa - The match that made Baker, despite the loss.

Funniest Moment

- The exploding ring. Nuff Said

- Anything involving Neg 1 and kendo sticks

Best Heel

- Reigns - A ship sailing smooth on the turbulent waters of 2021 WWE. Acknowledge him.

- Daniel Bryan DANIELSON - It's only been a few weeks, but he's already hitting his stride and collecting teeth (ready for Danhausen's Jar)
Best Babyface

- Alex Abrahantes - He's always so damn into it when he's ringside. With the gloves and the suit. A unearthed gem considering his previous QVC job

- Jungle Boy - Always gets a solid reaction, is still growing towards a main event place; the conchairto moment feels like a line in the sand

Moment of the Year

- Page wins the belt at All Out - "If it's visible, you'll see it. If it sounds right, you'll hear it. But when it's real, you'll know it" A truly feel good moment, all the way from the Casino Ladder Match, with perhaps the perfect build and payoff.

- Vince's Egg - Not a "good" moment, but shows how far from the wrestling business Vince has gone and how it's "We make movies, dammit".

- CM Punk is All Elite - That moment when Cult hits, meltdown

Match of the Year

- Baker/Rosa Lights Out - Brutal, almost visceral match that showed a side to women's wrestling that has been hidden til now. Even though Baker lost, it propelled her into the face of the division and showed her incredible improvement.

THE BAD
Biggest Letdown

- The exploding ring.

- Becky returns. aka How to kill two superstars in 30 seconds.

Worst Match

- Fiend/Orton at Mania - A payoff with no direction and all the weird shit you could squeeze into a below average match.

Worst TV Show

RAW - Lack of long term booking, hell, lack of any consistent direction. Cheap played out tropes

Made a few additions after realising it was up to 5 noms (and added Best Non Wrestler, at the top for convenience) @Frankie Crisp - you may have spotted these already, but if not, they’re in italics. Feel free to ignore if it’s a pain in the arse to add them, my fault for not reading the original post correctly!

  • Kenny Omega
  • CM Punk (I know this might seem like an insane choice - but he's been involved in so many memorable moments since his return - moments that won't be forgotten for some time - the Kingston feud and confrontation, the MJF promo battle, his return itself - I'm glad to see him back)

  • Miro
  • The Young Bucks
  • Men of the Year
  • Roman Reigns

Best Babyface

  • Hangman Page

  • Wrestle Me - They absolutely deserve to make it three-in-a-row after finishing up their Wrestlemania watch-through. The Patreon stuff is excellent too.
  • My World with Jeff Jarrett

Moment of the Year

  • CM Punk's return
  • Hangman and Dark Order's entrance at Fight for the Fallen
  • Adam Cole and Bryan Danielson debut one after another at All Out
  • CM Punk confronts MJF for the first time, without saying a word
  • Britt Baker hugs Tony Schiavone after winning the AEW Women's title

Match of the Year

  • Kenny Omega vs. Bryan Danielson (AEW Grand Slam)
  • CM Punk vs. Eddie Kingston (Full Gear)
  • Kenny Omega vs Christian (Rampage debut episode)
  • Britt Baker vs. Thunder Rosa (Lights Out match)

Promo of the Year

THE BAD
Biggest Letdown

  • Cody Rhodes' refusal to turn heel
  • AEW's "exploding" ring
  • The Dynamite immediately after CM Punk's debut
  • AEW signing Jay Lethal
  • WWE heavily teases The Rock at Survivor Series, but doesn't deliver

Worst Wrestler

  • Cody Rhodes - while he's not the worst wrestler from an in ring sense, the Codyverse is awful, and he's an incredibly disruptive aspect to AEW shows right now
  • Matt Hardy - Like Cody, he's not bad in ring. But he and his shitty little stable bring down any episode of Dynamite they're on.
  • Von Wagner
  • The Bunny
  • Commander Azeez

Worst Match

  • The Fiend vs. Randy Orton (Wrestlemania)
  • Cody Rhodes vs Anthony Ogogo (Double or Nothing)
  • Damien Priest vs. The Miz (Wrestlemania Backlash, Zombie Lumberjack match)

Worst Event

  • Survivor Series 2021
  • The Dynamite after CM Punk's debut
  • WWE Raw (The real worst event of 2021 will have been a Raw, but it's hard to pick just one - if I have to be specific, I'll go with the egg episode)
  • Crown Jewel 2021 (It doesn't sound like a bad show from a wrestling standpoint, but fucking hell, it exists to spread propaganda for a brutal regime - therefore, it earns its nomination)

Worst TV Show

  • WWE Raw
  • NXT 2.0

Best wrestler has to be either Josh Alexander or Bryan Danielson. I'd plump for Josh because while Danielson has had amazing matches the last few months in AEW Josh Alexander has been the best thing in Impact pretty much all year.

Angle of the year I'd say has to be the Hangman/Omega stuff. It demonstrated that long term booking is still alive if it's done right.

It was a tie in with Red Notice, the Rock’s latest magnum crapus on Netflix and an expensive gold egg. It was stolen at Survivor Series and the next nights raw was about finding it

THE GOOD
Best Women's Wrestler

Thunder Rosa - She's been the best thing about the AEW women's roster, and I hope she gets more out of it.

Best Men's Wrestler

Kenny Omega - to be dealing with as many injuries as he has and still been that good? Blimey. That's really impressive.

Pac - Just astonishingly good at what he does.

Jon Moxley - Really exciting throughout the year.

Best Tag Team

The Young Bucks. They've been genuinely hilarious and had continually good, fun matches. I'd generally seen Nick as a bit of a non-entity, but he's been a revelation as a heel.

The Lucha Bros. I get drawn into every match they have - their nearfalls are breathtaking at times.

Best British Wrestler - British Wrestler in any promotion, not just UK-based

I guess Drew McIntryre?

Best Event

All Out. Full Gear had, on average, better matches, but All Out was a really easy watch from start to finish. The cage match, in particular, was great, and it felt big time in the right way.

Best Wrestling Show

Dynamite - even the less good episodes have been easy to watch. When it's been on form, it's been a joy, and it's been on form more often than it's missed.

Best Feud or Angle

Kenny Omega vs Hangman Adam Page. It's the culmination of years of storytelling and actually paid it off well.  Genuinely the most I've loved pro wrestling in many, many years. It's been storytelling that hasn't treated the audience like idiots and it's been all the better for it.

Funniest Moment

Taz singing over the first time Tarzan Boy was played as Jungle Boy's new theme tune.

Taz and Excalibur on commentary, regularly.

The Halloween/Ghostbusters match (with Hangman unable to remove the costume as he left)

The exploding ring

Best Heel

Kenny Omega

Miro - Genuinely terrifying.

Best Babyface

Adam Page

Eddie Kingston

Best Podcast

Wrestle Me

Moment of the Year

The Dark Order interrupt Kenny Omega to point out Adam Page is No 1 contender. Real goose-bumps.

The Dark Order tell Adam Page it's his time.

Eddie Kingston starts a blood feud with CM Punk in one promo

CM Punk returns

Match of the Year

Lucha Bros vs Young Bucks (All Out)

Kenny Omega vs Bryan Danielson

CM Punk vs Eddie Kingston

Promo of the Year – can be an individual promo or a two-person back and forth but please be specific i.e. show and date

Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston on the Dynamite after the exploding ring debacle, smoothly moving past it

Miro vs God (over the last two months). "You gave me a body of granite and a neck of sand. Is that some kind of a joke to you?"

CM Punk returns

THE BAD
Biggest Letdown

Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match - I feel bad for everyone involved, as hilarious as it was.
