This has reminded me how absolutely thrilling it was for that half an hour when WrestleMania was delayed and they had to work off the cuff. I'm off to change one of my nominations! Paid Members Supremo Posted December 10, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted December 10, 2021 (edited) THE GOOD Best Women's Wrestler Britt Baker is the best. I don’t care if some of her matches are a bit wonky or if she tries stuff beyond her capabilities. She’s the best character, with the most confidence of any woman on the mic, and her ability to always find the camera, break the fourth wall and pull a brilliant face is second to none. Thunder Rosa Bianca Belair Serena Deeb (although minus points when I discovered she was shagging Marty Scurll. Gross.) Riho Best Men's Wrestler Eddie Kingston isn’t receiving anywhere near as many nominations as I was expecting. Match of the year candidates against Danielson, CM Punk and The Young Bucks (with Mox). Feud of the year candidate with Punk. Slam dunk promo of the year against Punk. Some of the best literature any wrestler has ever penned with that amazing article. Moment of the year candidate at Double or Nothing, laughing his arse off at Mox losing his mind. Tag team of the year candidate with Moxley. Babyface of the year candidate by being the most authentic, relatable, likeable man in the business. And of course, he and Moxley miraculously managed to style it out and talk their way out of the bomb fiasco; an all-time achievement. Eddie Kingston is the fucking man. Kenny Omega has been everything Roman Reigns hasn’t. Fantastic heel run on top. Endless amount of great matches. Wildly entertaining promos. Great character work. Hilarious outfits. Gave almost everyone he wrestled a proper rub. Told the best storyline in the history of the medium. And above all, his putting over of Hangman Page is the best job anyone has done of making someone a superstar since Foley made Hunter and Orton. Rest up, Cleaner. You’ve earned it. But yeah. Who are we kidding. The real answer is Daniel Bryan (BRYAN DANIELSON!). Literally the only interesting thing about WWE all year. Easily the greatest empty-building wrestler of all time. His quick match with Roman at Elimination Chamber where for a split second he looked like he’d win the belt was genuinely the most thrilling moment in that company all year. And then he jumped to AEW and has had the greatest run of matches I’ve ever seen. Banger after banger, fantastic as babyface and even better as a heel, it is nothing short of depressing to think how long he spent in WWE being the diet version of this. He’s amazing. One of the best ever. Best Non-wrestler - added @Frankie Crisp Taz Tony Schiavone Don Callis Alex Abrahantes Sue Baretta Best Tag Team The Young Bucks Lucha Brothers Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston Darby Allin and Sting FTR Best British Wrestler - British Wrestler in any promotion, not just UK-based PAC. Best Event AEW Double or Nothing isn’t getting enough love. Whilst All Out may have had the better matches and the bigger moments, Double or Nothing will forever be one of my favourite ever events for the return of the crowd and all the brilliant feel-good moments. Jungle Boy winning the Battle Royale, Moxley losing his mind, Britt Baker hugging Schiavone after winning the belt, the incredible three-way for the World Title, Sting’s phenomenal performance in the tag match, white hot reactions to everything, everyone singing and dancing all night long, the show closing with a huge singalong and the Inner Circle all beaming with smiles. Incredible. After the previous year, this was like The Wizard of Oz when everything goes from black and white to colour. AEW All Out AEW Grand Slam Best Wrestling Show AEW Dynamite. Has there ever been a run of pro-wrestling TV as good as Dynamite this year? I used to love it because it resembled the best stuff from 1997 but it’s easily surpassed that now. AEW Rampage. Best Feud or Angle Hangman Adam Page vs. Kenny Omega CM Punk vs. Eddie Kingston Nick Jackson vs. Style Funniest Moment Poncho Joe Chris Jericho is thrown off the Blood and Guts cage onto a giant water bed. Nia Jax and Charlotte Flair have a shoot fight live on Raw. Edge’s Wrestlemania main event getting Batista’d, with Daniel Bryan added to make interesting, when they didn’t even have fans turning against it. Even with the ability to pump in thunderous cheers you’re unable to deny what an old, boring prick Edge is. Hilarious. Best Heel Kenny Omega Miro Nick Jackson Dan Lambert Taz Best Babyface Hangman Adam Page. We’re proud of you. Sting Jungle Boy Eddie Kingston Sue Baretta Moment of the Year CM Punk returns. Hangman Page wins the big one. Hangman Page and The Dark Order have the greatest entrance of all time. Hangman Adam Page is the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man! Jon Moxley loses his mind during his Double or Nothing entrance, gets completely lost, nearly runs over a kid, throws shit everywhere, needs to be guided to the ring by a cackling Eddie Kingston. Match of the Year Britt Baker vs. Thunder Rosa - Lights Out The Young Bucks vs. Lucha Brothers - Cage Match - All Out Eddie Kingston vs. CM Punk - Full Gear Kenny Omega vs. Bryan Danielson - Grand Slam Daniel Bryan vs. Roman Reigns - Elimination Chamber Promo of the Year – can be an individual promo or a two-person back and forth but please be specific i.e. show and date CM Punk return promo. Eddie Kingston and CM Punk on Rampage. Any promo Miro cut on God. THE BAD Biggest Letdown The bomb not going off at AEW Revolution. They were seconds away from magic until those roman candles went off. WWE continuing to pump in the fake crowd even after the real crowd returned, making most of their shows borderline unwatchable. Roman Reigns devolving into the dullest, most boring wrestler in the business. Months and months of mumbling bollocks, a completely stunted character that’s gone nowhere, relentlessly destroying everyone in boring feuds. No-one gets a rub. Nothing interesting ever happens. You’re just left with a completely dead brand and this boring bastard saying, “acknowledge me.” Fuck all challengers. Fuck all to look forward to. Awful. The antithesis of Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks in AEW. Overall, I genuinely preferred Roman as the failing babyface. Everything Bianca Belair had achieved being flushed down the shitter once Becky Lynch returned. AEW announces the signing of Jay Lethal on the same show as they culminate the best storyline of all time, massively dampening the feel-good ending. Worst Wrestler The Fiend Alexa Bliss Omos Worst Match Cody Rhodes vs. Anthony Ogogo - AEW Double or Nothing The Fiend vs. Randy Orton - Wrestlemania Worst Event Wrestlemania Night Two Worst TV Show WWE Raw WWE Smackdown Edited December 10, 2021 by Supremo
Awards Moderator Frankie Crisp Posted December 10, 2021 Author Awards Moderator Share Posted December 10, 2021 Update - new award for Best Non-wrestler has now been added. I was originally going to do best and worst commentator, but the latter seemed futile and might as well have just been the Jericho award. Adding this positive one should throw a good few options in, be it commentators, managers, general on-screen boss etc. If you‘ve already submitted your nominations, feel free to edit your post but please tag me if you do so I can update the db. Adding a new post is fine instead. Good suggestion, @RedRooster
