Tamura Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 Catching up on some packs I've had downloaded for what seems like an eternity, and watching "Akira Hokutos 50 Best Matches by Cagematch" but whoever compiled the comp didn't really do their homework properly. #44 is this match: Like the title says "What!? Two Hokuto Akira!?" As while the wrestler in the ring might be kitted out at least superficially to resemble Akira Hokuto, anyone who actually watches the match might notice that the real Akira Hokuto is sat at ringside next to the commentators. Anyone know what the story behind the match is? Quote

It's from Rumble 97 and it's just one of those anonymous Nation members that they had around the time until Savio joined and the whole group got streamlined. Probably an indy worker. There was also a woman who looked like Jacqueline who wasn't with them on that show. The used to have random nameless members all suited up I assume to bolster the real life influences behind Faarooq's act when they were still establishing it. Quote

When they were presenting Bray Wyatt as a "cult leader", but he only had two blokes following him, what kind of a cult is that? Would it have killed them to have paid to just have some extras in hillbilly get-up hanging around them? Same when Punk was leading the Straight Edge Society, I always felt they should have done more with that, having plants in the crowd in SES gear and shaved heads to make his influence seem more widespread. I've seen the obvious ladder, table and TLC stuff but i'm really struggling to think of any great straight up tags. Quote

I recall liking Hardys vs E&C from No Way Out 2000, including Faarouq killing Jeff with a dominator at the end. Weird to see Terri with the Hardys this late too, even if this is obviously the last time it happened. Bit of a bore, but the dominator at the end is mad. It's obviously a different time now in many ways, but having looked through Cagematch, it seems crazy that for a legendary 3 way tag rivalry, most of the non gimmicked matches appear to be 5 minute or less TV matches of very little note, and even these longer matches are, at best, quite good. Speaks to the power of how over the product was at the time, and how innovative (for a US TV audience) the ladder matches were. Quote
