If I’m right in thinking Austin wasn’t supposed to bleed at Wrestlemania 13 the plan to turn him babyface was just him passing out from the pain of the Sharpshooter? Not saying it wouldn’t have worked but surely wouldn’t have been as massive for Austin

In Bret’s book, he said it was his idea for Austin to juice to really get the double turn angle over. I think it was during one of the periods where they weren’t supposed to blade, and apparently Austin hadn’t done it before, so they agreed that Bret would open him up. When Vince asked them about it the next day, they both denied it and Vince never mentioned it again.

Love Bret and I find his version of most stories and events much more believable than 99% of old wrestlers. But I’ve never  really fully bought that one. Austin absolutely had bled in matches before. Both him and Dustin Rhodes juiced in their Halloween Havoc 91 match. And I could swear he bled in the 92 War Games match as well. Unless those times someone else did it for him as well, I would think he’d bladed at least once or twice before the Bret match.

Just watched it again, JR is saying he’s bust open well before it’s actually on camera, must’ve been the plan even if Vince wouldn’t admit that, as Wand says Bret says he did it for him but it’s more likely Austin did it while he was under the timekeeper table

Austin has told the story multiple times about Bret doing the deed for him, but it was more so he couldn't be caught on camera doing it himself given the no blading edict. Nothing to do with not knowing how to do it himself.

Did Russo have anything to do with hiring wrestlers when he went to WCW? I remember Mike Awesome and Lance Storm saying they dealt with Bischoff for their contract talks but other than Jarrett I’ve never heard of Russo having anything to do with talent coming in

Tank Abbott was late '99 would have been someone signed when Bischoff was gone and Vince Russo was in charge. 

Former WWF people he would have known that signed in late 99-early 2000 that you can feel Russo's fingerprints. Harris Brothers turning up as Creative Control. Ahmed Johnson had been available for years arrived as Big T for the Harlem Heat break-up. PMS alums Ryan Shamrock and Shawn Stasiak. Candido & Sunny had been out there for a while and only signed once Russo was in charge.

Abbott was in WCW months before Russo put pen to paper, they just hadn't figured out what to do with him.

Hi all, I'm looking for a max ten minute match to use as an example of traditional babyface and heel psychology. Any ideas? Thanks in advance if you can help!

Sammy Lee vs Sid Cooper is, for me, the best example of a heel using their role to get the babyface over. The way Cooper can pivot from clowning to bullying, from being the butt of the joke to being a vicious bastard, and how everything is structured around him just not really having an answer for Sammy's style of offence, is perfect:

To me, the essence of a heel/babyface formula is two things - the babyface moves forward/speeds up while the heel moves backward/slows down, and that the story of the match should always demonstrate that the babyface is, in a clean fight, the deserving winner; he should show that he's faster, stronger, more skilled, has more heart, whatever it is that makes him superior to the heel, and then his victory should derive from whatever that quality is, or his defeat should come with an excuse related to that quality - the babyface would have had this one won if only he had managed to do X, or if only the heel hadn't got away with doing Y.
