Ironic Indie Lad Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 Was away in a cabin in the woods with my family for a long weekend there. Decided to take my Switch with me and chip away at Resident Evil Remake during the quieter moments (when my daughter went to bed). I first got this game on the GameCube not long after it came out. I would have been 15 at the time so in high school, no job and no money for games most of the time. I was already a huge Resi fan at the time having absolutely rinsed the PC versions of the first two games as I didnt have a PS1. The remake was definitely my most anticipated game but I knew I would need to wait. As luck would have it, there was a guy in my Modern Studies class who had a GameCube. His mum had got him the game as a present. He said It was unplayable to him as it was so scary due to the surround sound in his bedroom. WHAT A POSH TWAT. He wanted rid of it so he sold me it for £20. Needless to say I had the last laugh. To this day its an absolutely fantastic game. Definitely the best way to experience the story given how its fleshed out here. Quote

I'm sure it'll be a good laugh but I think the yearly releases are starting to catch up to the series. Obviously I'm getting it eventually but this is the first time a Yakuza game hasn't been a guaranteed day 1 purchase, for me. However if we ever get Like a Dragon Yakuza in Space, I'm fully on board, lol. Wish they'd branch out a bit with more Fist of The North Star type games. Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted February 18, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 18, 2025 I was laid up with a nasty chest infection for a few days, so dug out the Switch and made a start on Super Mario Wonder, which we've borrowed from my partner's nephew. I'd watched him play a little bit of it last time we babysat him, and it looked fun, and so far I've enjoyed it. A bit gimmicky in places, but it's Mario, it's always good, and full of brilliant little touches. Working my way through some PS Plus freebies; I decided I was done with Jurassic World Evolution 2, as it gets very samey very quickly, and I'd done the bulk of the story mode, and couldn't see myself ever going back to it. Blitzed through Sayonara Wild Hearts in a single sitting; gorgeous game that I'm absolutely bang average at, but my partner loves it and has been back to it trying to get all the achievements and high scores and everything. I lasted about five minutes into Tom Clancy's The Division 2 before the sheer amount of gun worship and right-wing fantasy wank turned me off; an entire video package about how "we got too comfortable, we expected a take-out coffee and free wifi every day" and "how do you live without the police to protect you? Do you have a gun? Does your neighbour?". Fuck all that bollocks. I know it's a militaristic shooty-shooty game, so I'm not expecting much, but slightly more nuance than that would have been nice. Then I've been working my way through the 2013 Tomb Raider. I remember really enjoying watching my ex play it on the PS3, and thinking it did a good job of reinventing the Lara Croft character with a reboot that makes sense of who she is and everything. There's bits of it I remember, but it's the first time I've actually played it myself, and I'm enjoying it, though it's very reliant on quick time events that I find annoying. Quote
Merzbow Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 (edited) I always thought they could have done a good JoJo's Bizarre Adventure game in that Yakuza engine, I know the stands are difficult to replicate in games at times but two fighting styles could work with one being base Jotaro and the other with Star Platinum. I guess it's also down to whoever has the license. Edited February 18, 2025 by Merzbow Quote
The King Of Swing Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch) Around 17 hours in and despite it being years since I've played it properly, I've gotten to grips with it again pretty easily. In fact I'm finding it easier now than when I originally played it. Can see why it's pretty divisive among fans, though. It's by far the most 'anime' game in the series. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 18, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 18, 2025 I started playing Grapple Dog last night. Fun platformer, nothing too strenuous as long as you don't do the speed runs. Think I might start Euro Truck Simulator tonight. Need something else I can sink dozens of hours into. Quote

I really like Grapple Dog, and with the spring Steam sale just around the corner, it’ll almost certainly be cheap soon - it’s definitely worth wishlisting. The sequel, Grapple Dog: Cosmic Canines, is also very good. I’ve started playing Avowed, and while I’m really enjoying it, it’s a little bit hard to follow at times based on the terminology. Since it’s set in an already established world, the rules and history is already set; meaning that things are referenced frequently that has me looking at their ‘lore guide’ (built into the game) to see what the heck the characters are on about. But it’s good, kind of like a mini-Skyrim. Definitely makes the process of entry for Game Pass worthwhile this month. Quote

Paid Members JLM Posted February 20, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 20, 2025 https://store.steampowered.com/app/2742830/Monster_Train_2/ Monster Train 2 announced with a demo available. There goes another 700 hours of my life. Can’t be legal for STS2 and Monster Train 2 to come out in the same year. Quote
Cousin Jim Bob Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 I am struggling with Hades atm. To the point I am thinking of quitting. I was not expecting it to be as hard as it is. I have been stuck on the minotaur and his dickhead friend for days now. I am even playing on god mode and have watched guides but the best I have got is beating the minotaur then got wiped out by the other guy calling in gods. This reminds me of Fromsoft games and their "git gud" and bang your head against a wall over and over again gameplay. Sadly I love everything else about it but I might have to throw the towel in here. Quote
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted February 21, 2025 Moderators Posted February 21, 2025 For what it's worth I do still think that's the toughest fight in the game - I don't think anything that comes after it is that difficult. Don't know if that helps! Quote

You'll find a load out that works for you and wonder what the problem was. It's a cracking game. Quote
Paid Members Nexus Posted February 22, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 22, 2025 It is, sadly, entirely dependent upon your boons. If you can get Artemis' seeking arrow one, and perhaps Demeter's dash blizzard, you can then just concentrate on running around dodging whilst letting the mini damage chip away at them. Quote
Merzbow Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 I'm playing Citizen Sleeper 2 and after some initial misgivings about being made to micromanage more little numbers it's a beautifully written sequel to an already great Sci-Fi RPG/Tabletop game. Most of the game is played through dice rolls and while seemingly relaxed there's an added stress element this time around that can lead to broken or glitched dice that make you think far more about what you're doing. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 22, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 22, 2025 Transitioning from many years of GTA play to Euro Truck Simulator 2 is difficult. Actually having to obey driving laws? What the fuck? Enjoying it a lot though. Very relaxing. Sheer embarrassment when I overturned on the A6 for one run. Quote
