Is there a central story/end point, or is it very much an ongoing/neverending game?

There’s a story. But it’s easy to ignore it and get lost in base-building. If memory serves, you do need to advance the story to get access to new crafting ingredients. The highlight of the game for me was the exploration and discovering new areas of the garden. I remember a particularly terrifying moment where I was in some labyrinthine underground ant tunnels and my torch went out and I didn’t have the ingredients to make a new one. Blind panic ensued.

The first encounter with

Spoiler

Wolf spiders

Is awful. Similarly their aquatic counterparts.

Completed Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.

Including almost all substories, took a little over 28 hours. So a decent little slice of LAD in between main games.

Sadly though, imo it features the weakest combat in the entire series. Majima's two fighting styles are not really distinct enough to bother swapping between them, and I button mashed my way through probably %80 of the games encounters, including bosses.

Main antagonists are just kind of there and don't really bring anything to the table.

On a more positive note, the pirate/naval stuff is mostly good fun and I actually found myself appreciating Hawaii more than I did in Infinite Wealth. Think I'll go back to that game, soon.

I mostly also enjoyed the substories.

7/10. Even with any issues I had, still a fun smaller scale break in between mainline entries.

I just really hope we get a new game set back in one of the classic LAD/Yakuza locations.

Ending spoilers.

Spoiler

Worth the price tag alone for the sight of Samoa Joe getting eaten by a whale, after taking an uppercut from Majima.

Ichiban's little cameo was fun.

Also Kiryu will outlive TNA. RGG will never kill him off.

The series is basically an Anime, now.

I’ll probably be picking up Assassin’s Creed Shadows next week. I’m generally a fan of the big open world AC games. It might be overshadowed somewhat because I’ve been replaying Ghost Of Tsushima for the past few weeks and I don’t think it could possibly compare.

Edit: Seems there a remake/remaster of Elder Scrolls Oblivion on its way soon too. There goes my social life.*

I finally got on the Balatro wagon. I'm so tired, I really needed an early night tonight. Fuck sake.

I keep eyeing it up too and wondering where all my spare time will go. I might need to wait until I have a week off.

104 hours and I'm finally done with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Making you do all the Gold Saucer minigames again for a final sidequest is fucking diabolical. Delighted to have wrapped it, I'll wait until ChipCheezum gets to it (if they ever do) to see the alternate bits I missed and Hard mode changes. Don't see myself doing a second playthrough like I did for Remake.

Yeah, it’s a game I’d have loved to revisit, if not for the padding. Some of the later dungeons went on for far longer than was enjoyable. And the thought of playing through the Cait Sith bit again isn’t exactly an appealing one. I get the impression that’s the general consensus though, so I’m hoping the third game takes that into consideration. Keep the optional side activities, tighten up the missions somewhat.

I’m playing Assassin’s Creed: Shadows and I’m instantly annoyed that they continue to persevere with this Abstergo modern day shit. Surely nobody likes this? Can I not just lose myself in an open world Samurai game without this horrid sci-fi aspect? Ditch it already.

I completed Still Wakes the Deep last night, possibly the first game ever in which one character calls another an ‘absolute fudd’

I liked it enough, but there were sections of it that felt a little tedious and frustrating. But it’s a short game with a nice story, and lots of familiar Scottish actors so a win overall.

I just bought Street Fighter 6. I won the first game against my 6 year old then she beat me 10 in a row. I think it's too violent for her all of a sudden.

Also got Cyberpunk which is 1 player thankfully.
