I love all of that trilogy, but they're not generally easy to click with. 2 is the best by far for that, gets going pretty quick, the timeline hopping is fun, and the combat is really smooth.

I think Lightning Returns is one of the best FF games ever made, but it's one I bounced off twice before I got it and started having fun with the timeline and the odd combat mechanics.

It feels a little like Kingdom Hearts to me, in that you’re continually visiting new realities and being confronted with new mini-stories. Not to mention the fact Noel looks very similar to Sora.

The gameplay is fun, the story - while unspectacular - is still fun and Caius is actually a really strong villain. It pisses all over the original game and if this had been the main entry, I think it would have been a lot of people’s favourite in the series. I’m having a great time with it.

I’m looking forward to Lightning Returns given what you’ve said, although I think I prefer Serrah as a protagonist to Lightning.

Also, separate not, but Snow is even less likeable in this game than he was in the original. When you have a more sympathetic villain than you do love interest, you’ve gone badly wrong somewhere.

Atomfall is out next week and I can't wait to play it.

It's got some decent reviews, so here hoping.

Yeah, I watched some videos of it, and it looks really fun. It’s also by the team that did Sniper Elite 4, which is a really fun game, filling me with even more optimism.

Well wouldn’t you know it, Final Fantasy XIII-2, which I’m now playing, is a really good game. I wasn’t expecting that. It’s surprisingly fun.

Best overall game in the trilogy, imo. Lightning Returns is also good fun, just because of how utterly bonkers it is.

The first game is still the weakest, imo. Just really boring to play.

Anyway. The QoL changes to Xenoblade Chronicles X DE are worth the price tag, alone.

I didn’t hate it, particularly when it opens up, but I didn’t love it either. As a fan of the series, I’m glad I finally finished it, but I don’t expect to revisit it, ever. And it’s the only game in the series outside of the original three that I’d say that about.

Random question for anyone who plays or knows anything about Minecraft. My daughter plays it a lot and i'm thinking of buying her one of the DLC packs (like Sonic). If I download the DLC are those character immediately available in the game? she plays the Creative mode. What exactly do I get with it?

My 12yo answered (and that's probably as much as I'll get ?)

Oooooooh, Internet friend!

As far as I remember when she's bought the DLC packs the characters are available straight away and I think you get some other "stuff" with it. That's helpful isn't it?

Been a while since I was in that world, so grain of salt with this since they change things every year and I haven't kept up since I worked in it.

Pulling info from this wiki https://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_(Minecraft) , looks like there are two things you get:

Skin packs
These are outfits for your character, so if you want to look like Sonic or Amy or whoever you can. This will be available immediately in whatever they're playing.

Adventures
These are like pre-determined 'games' that you can play. Won't interact with your existing world, but is instead a special thing you can select before playing. This plays like translating the Sonic games into Minecraft, with characters having unique abilities, and your goal to beat the stages and collect rings.

These look like they're bundled together in the Sonic pack, but might be available separately if only one or the other is interesting to them.

Still working through Ghost Of Tsushima and I’ve unlocked the ghost stance. Where I was a capable samurai previously, now I’m an unstoppable machine. It made me wonder about other games and the point where you become overpowered and can easily wipe out enemies. The only other example I could think of is the reboot of God Of War when you unlock the blades of chaos and combat becomes even more satisfying as you slice through things like butter. Anyone know of any other instances?

Gears of War 4 is really oddly paced in the sense that 90% of the game is your standard 'take cover, run and gun' approach that Gears mastered over the years, but then in the last act they give you a big mech suit which allows you to just completely steamroll and run over enemies without the need for taking cover at all. It just seemed odd that they would make the final section of the game such a cakewalk.

Started playing Grapple Dog properly and it's a really fun platformer. Obviously influenced by the Rayman games so I expect it to be ridiculously difficult before long and the speed runs can sod off.

Also started Slime Rancher and I can see this getting dozens of hours sunk into it. Can't think why anyone would tag it as 'relaxing' though because there's nothing relaxing about dozens of angry slimes waiting on carrots when you can only find henhens.

I totally agree, I found it a bit stressful at times!

I bought the Early Access version of Psycho Patrol R and it's a broken, obtuse and stupidly hard mess but then you kill someone that's been turned into a blob through shampoo products and he lives here.. worshipping Shoko Asahara.
