Merzbow Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 Maybe not exactly what you're after but I'd say it's good for any budding game designer to listen to Robert Kurvitz a little, even if it's just for a cautionary tale of how not to lose your life's art to capital. Quote
Paid Members BigJag Posted January 27, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 27, 2025 @Jesse thank you very much. I'll pass on these recommendations to the wife. Would these books be suitable for someone who seems to be leaning towards the graphic design side of the video game industry. Quote
Paid Members Jesse Posted January 27, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 27, 2025 Ah gotcha, these are very much about designing games themselves (core loops, player motivations, that kind of thing). Not useless to have an understanding of as a game artist, but definitely not pointing in that direction. I'm not as familiar with the art side of things, I think art books are more generally applicable so you're less likely to see specific game art design books (other than like "The Art of X" style books showing off concepts and renders, but that side of things is mystical to me so someone else on here might be able to better direct you. Merzbow Posted January 30, 2025 Posted January 30, 2025 Pokemon TCG Pocket just received a substantial update, two new booster packs and a trade system. Sadly the latter is all sorts of fucked up as you need a special currency to do it, you'd need to burn 4 EX cards just to get enough of it to trade a single one! Quote

The trading system is completely fucked, you just send a random card to someone and they either decline the trade completely or you expect a random card back, no communication allowed. Considering I only need one card from each set to finish(Ditto and Pidgeot EX) I’ve got no chance. Edited January 30, 2025 by TildeGuy~! Quote

Paid Members BigJag Posted January 30, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 30, 2025 https://forza.net/news/forza-horizon-5-comes-to-ps5 Forza will be available across PS5,PC,and Xbox. With cross-play across all platforms. How much damage will this do to Gran Turismo? The cross play ability opens the game up to a lot of people. Ball is in Sony's court. Quote
Retro Red Posted January 31, 2025 Posted January 31, 2025 I don’t think it will have a big impact on GT - if it was a new edition of the main motorsport title then quite possibly but Horizon is a more arcade based title. It’s also 4yrs old at this point so while great for PlayStation owners to have the opportunity to play it I don’t see it as a big needle drop for Sony yet. Quote
Paid Members BigJag Posted January 31, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 31, 2025 I've not followed the Forza series very closely. Thanks for the clarification. Quote
Paid Members Weezenal Posted January 31, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 31, 2025 Playing Forza Horizon 4 on my laptop during Covid made me get gamepass and eventually an X-Box so could away a few of Forza 6 ever comes out. Quote
Merzbow Posted January 31, 2025 Posted January 31, 2025 Although similar games I think Gran Turismo is different enough to hold it's own, they both have distinctive drive models that appeal to different people. It'd be interesting to see if Sony do the same back and we see GT on Xbox and PC. Quote
The Gaffer Posted January 31, 2025 Posted January 31, 2025 Horizon's one of the quickest I've ever binned a major release, I think. Couldn't get over the trapped-in-a-can-of-Monster "HELLO ALL YOU BEAUTIFUL SEXY THRILLSEEKERS, WELCOME TO DRIVING PARADISE!" feel of the whole thing. Not played Gran Turismo in years but other than some wonderfully kitsch Japanese synth menu music I much preferred the whole understated, luxury presentation of the whole thing. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted January 31, 2025 Posted January 31, 2025 They're massively different. Sure, two car games but that's about where the similarities end. Two ends of the scale when it comes to presentation for sure and I enjoy both depending on what mood I'm in. Sometimes I just need something a bit louder and more free which is when I'll dip into Horizon - it looks gorgeous. GT definitely needs me to be in the mood to concentrate a bit more. Quote
TheScarlettChad Posted January 31, 2025 Posted January 31, 2025 Playing Ninja Gaiden Black 2's remake? On Game Pass. Really fun hack and slash, Its not too hard but doesn't hold your hand either. Gory as fuck too. Would recommend. Quote
