My local gets the Bullseye crisps in, they're lovely. Nothing groundbreaking, just really solid flavours.

The M&S maple bacon trail mix is splendid and has lots of over-flavoured dust in the bottom to empty into your gob and raise your blood pressure several hundred points.

These probably sound horrific, but they’re surprisingly nice - very moreish. You can taste fact these are made from cauliflower in the crisp, although it’s very subtle - the lime gives them a really nice tang and the black pepper adds a little bit of heat. Very nice indeed, 8/10.

You can get them in person at the Buchanan Centre in Glasgow and in a lot of Scottish farm shops. They’re made in Fife, and you can also buy them online - google will give you options, but here’s a Fife-based business that’ll ship them to you.

Also, decided that Thai Sweet Chicken McCoys are the worst crisps of all time. The new Grilled Cheese ones are excellent though.

I can get the logic behind it. If I'm making a chilli for friends I'll sometimes pop a couple of pieces of dark chocolate in there as well as it enhances the flavour. Maybe if they had some dark chocolate chips instead of having a dark chocolate coating it would have been better?

Tried Tesco chicken katsu curry flavour. Very good! Essentially just curry powder on crisps, not much chicken going on but still very nice.

I don't think its the chilli and chocolate combo thats the problem. They're a very common combination of flavours. It's the chocolate covered tortilla chips that is the weird bit.

Yeah I really liked them too, saw many reviews saying they had no taste so I'm guessing they upped the powder as mine were really strong.

Yeah they sound right up my street. One of the best crisps I had last year was the Taylors Boxing Day Curry ones.

M&S also do really nice Katsu ones, but they are ridged, which isn't my preferred texture.

Been dipping the toe in the Christmas crisp waters the last few weeks since they’re already on shelves.

First up were M&S Hot Honey Pigs In Blankets. Sounded challenging as many “pigs in blankets” crisps or snacks struggle to taste like both bacon AND sausage and usually end up just tasting like one or the other, never mind balancing hot and sweet notes on top. A very satisfying crisp, sweet heat welcome, though it didn’t really deliver “pigs in blankets” so much as generic bacony flavour. Would eat again, but a bit let down (as, to be fair, most crisps are) by the fact they weren’t crinkle cut/ridged. Very good effort, 7 on 10. Lets make love.

Same weekend went to Sainos (as the kids say) and bought back Duck & Spiced Plum crisps and also a big bag of Jumbo Pigs In Blankets Puff(ing)s. You know the ones, huge mutant Wotsits. Not the ball shapes per Tescos much-missed turkey & stuffing flavour. Yes, those probably belong in Snack Attack but who can be bothered to do two posts? Superb puffing tasting simultaneously like salty bacon and greasy sausage, huge bag which even at £2.25 if you don’t have a Nectar card (and if you like a good crisp… why don’t you?) - super value. Duck crisps were a shade too sweet - I’d forgotten I’d already tried them last year - and the hints of certain spices made them unpalatable for Mrs raid, which I kind of expected. Slight drawback to the lions share of that bag AND the puffings in one sitting, I needed more trips to the loo than normal that evening. Crisps nice but I wouldn’t buy again, puffings nailed on for a repeat over actual Festivus, Decemberween, Winterval and/or Merrynium depending on what you observe.

Finally, went back to M&S this week. “Malaysian Inspired” Roast Turkey sounds wonky, I don’t think there’s a Cornish Pasty style legal implication if Percy just called them “Malaysian Roast Turkey” but hey ho. Spices were nice but like a lot of turkey crisps they seem to have wanted to do “butter basted” as part of the flavour profile so every now and again a crisp tasted VERY buttery and that’s just not something I can get on board with. Avoid. Finally we arrived at last to some real crunch with Ridge Cut Spicy Prawn Cocktail - expected a Walkers Max Strong clone but they weren’t, less heat but great spicing - she liked the paprika, for me the lime set everything off - and there was enough fishy background. Another winner.

My sister just sent me this, it's in my home town. Might try and time a visit to my parents next year to coincide with the festival.
