I'm worried we might end up with bloody Nadine Dorries, now that she's been promoted from shrieking fringe backbench nutcase and been bestowed with a veneer of ministerial profile.

She was already a minister before being promoted to a Secretary of State position. Incredibly she was Minister for Mental Health.

Somehow, the phrase "fucking hell" seems woefully inadequate.

I honestly don't know whether or not this justifies my policy of refraining from keeping too abreast with political news over the past several months for the sake of my mental health.

Trolls could face two years in prison for sending messages or posting content that causes psychological harm under legislation targeting online hate.

Ministers will overhaul communication laws by creating new offences in the forthcoming Online Safety Bill, the flagship legislation to combat abuse and hatred on the internet.

The Department for Culture, Media & Sport has accepted recommendations from the Law Commission for crimes to be based on “likely psychological harm”.

The proposed law change will shift the focus on to the “harmful effect” of a message rather than if it contains “indecent” or “grossly offensive” content, which is the present basis for assessing its criminality.

So, the culture war obsessed free speech warriors in our Tory government are going to criminalise speech based on entirely subjective measures of "psychological harm"?

Yeah, that tracks.

Yeah, that tracks.

There’s also talk of instigating pile ons via quote tweeting replies becoming a crime, which means poor @IANdrewDiceClayis heading for another ban.

Parliament's independent standards watchdog finds one of your MPs broke lobbying rules and recommends a 30 day suspension. Do you:

A) Vote to uphold the suspension.

B) Vote to impose no punishment.

C) Vote to impose no punishment, abolish the watchdog, and replace it with a committee of MPs, the majority being from your party.

We'll find out today.

When an MP was suspended for sexual harassment they were saying how they can’t change the rules, now a lobbying side hustle gets done they can change the rules. The rules that 6 MPs pushing for change have fallen foul of. As George Monbiot said on Politics Live, if this is an issue of principle, why did they wait until one of their own fell foul of the rules for this principle to appear?
