Do you: A) Vote to uphold the suspension. B) Vote to impose no punishment. C) Vote to impose no punishment, abolish the watchdog, and replace it with a committee of MPs, the majority being from your party. We'll find out today. It continues to both amaze and dissapoint me that the people haven't stormed the Commons and dragged the Tories out into the street for a very serious talking to. Paid Members Carbomb Posted November 3, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted November 3, 2021 We're destined to go through this cycle for quite some time, I think. 1. Tories do something evil/shit/corrupt/illegal/all of the above 2. Media furore 3. Nothing happens to Tories 4. Public votes for Tories at next election

Public votes for Tories at next election People are numb to the corruption and care little about the rest. Politics is about tribes & feelings. I'd argue the traditional 'left & right wings' aren't even relevant any more. Especially when you've a Conservative party who stripped the police and CPS to the core and repeatedly broke all immigration records. And on the other side a Labour Party now despised by the working classes they were supposed to represent as they feel they abandoned them. It's all arse about tit. Paid Members Jazzy G Posted November 3, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted November 3, 2021 The worst bit of it is that the motion was passed by 18 votes after 28 Labour MPs walked out in protest instead of voting against it.

LCJ
The only way Labour are going to stand a chance against these bastards is to appoint a capable leader with charisma and brains. Right now, Labour are a shambles from top to bottom.

A large chunk of the electorate masks its ignorance behind four aloof words: "They're all the same." Once you adopt that mantra you no longer have to trouble yourself with further thought, much less pay attention to who's doing what. No matter the crime, "if they were in charge, they'd be doing it too. I hate all politicians." Easy, innit?
Paid Members BomberPat Posted November 4, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted November 4, 2021 I was just about to say something about the "They're all the same" point - there's always been an element of that in politics, but I think it's probably the biggest legacy of the Iraq war for domestic politics, and made worse by the MP expenses scandal. There's an assumption that the absolute baseline for politicians is corruption and dishonesty, so it doesn't register with Joe Public, because the assumption is that they're all at it. Paid Members tiger_rick Posted November 4, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted November 4, 2021 Not defending Labour, because they're shit and Starmer is the biggest disappointment since the last one, but you only have to look at the fury over 28 Labour MPs abstaining from yesterday's vote to see why they haven't got a chance. They didn't abstain, they were paired against 28 Tory MPs who also weren't present. Woke this morning to as much chatter about that as cunts who have broken the rules and then voted to change them rather than face punishment. Party needs a huge reset. Again. Arguing what Labour should do now is the political equivalent of worrying now about Team GB's tactics for the 2028 LA Olympics. The last election guaranteed Tory rule for a bare minimum 2 terms and that's based on all the new Tory voters realising they made a mistake after being shafted. Right now there's no evidence of that whatsoever because their choice was driven by social attitudes, not economics or policy.
