Everything is perception and presentation with wrestling. If you present something as dangerous and different then it becomes that, even if it's not.

It's like people on here saying 'Rock would never come back for a match a dangerous as War Games' when, in reality, it is no more or less dangerous than a regular match. It has been presented as being so, however, and therefore this has become the accepted reality.

If anything a modern day War Games match is probably safer for The Rock to work than a normal singles match, he can come out last, he can hide more with everything else going on, and just stomp someone in a corner for a bit. Hit a Rock Bottom on someone, and thats about it.

a 20/30 minute singles match with Roman Reigns is far more dangerous to him than a 10 minute stint in War Games.

AEW did a middle rope piledriver and put MJF in a neck brace for weeks after just 2 months ago. YES IT WAS FROM THE MIDDLE ROPE, I am just pointing out the argument that one does stupid spots with no real long lasting impact and the other one doesn't because it's rare is silly tribal bollocks. Owen's Piledriver looked shit PURELY because of the angle it was filmed at. Had they used the hardcam or an angle from behind, we wouldn't be having any discourse.

Wasn't there a piledriver on Orange Cassidy on the ring steps and he was back on his feet 10 seconds later? So like WWE inconsistent storytelling is the norm.

This angle with Orton works because of his history, a man who once dislocated his shoulder by punching the mat before his finisher. The camera work was rubbish and it would have been more impactful not to show the shot that they did but old brittle Randy is perfect for this style of angle. We all know that Orton's don't heal well, his dad had a broken arm for years after all because it wouldn't heal right.

If anything, Owens should have done his old Package Piledriver. I don't think that's ever been done on WWE TV and would have been pretty shocking. Would be a cool little addition to Owen's character as well to have a secret evil murder move in his repertoire.

No matter how shit it looked, WWE has got more of us talking about one single move than any other company in recent history.

That's only impressive if you subscribe to the "any publicity is good publicity" way of thinking. Everyone talking about how shit the move looked isn't what they were going for.

I have been thinking about this Gooshy. The problem might be that when Kev was doing that back in the before WWE times the guys he was doing the move on were not necessarily on the same *Fitness Regime* as Randolph. Trying to package that many steroids is what got George Zahorian in trouble.

Botched the camera angle.

Yeah that's classic bollocks and an utterly strange brag too, in no way have they engineered anything. They did an angle, an old school style simple one with a shitarse edit of it. No matter how you look at Vince McMahon...

Sure. And if you want to trawl back through all the years of WWE and AEW you’ll find other examples of high impact moves like piledrivers being used as nothing special. But we’re talking about the hear and now.

For sure. HBK piledrove Undertaker on the steel steps at both Bad Blood 97 and Royal Rumble 98 with little selling on Taker's part. I think that's another part of why I struggle to accept an angle where I'm expected to believe a piledriver is so dangerous when I have thousands of memories of piledrivers being used in every wrestling company with no issues.

But probably most of WWE's current audience haven't seen any of those matches so they'll probably be fine with it.

As they should!

As is bringing AEW in to the discussion for no apparent reason. It’s not even a direct criticism of AEW. I enjoy their high impact style for the spectacle it creates and they did a good job of making the Tiger Driver mean more.

I literally put that inconsistent storytelling was the norm for both of them, Gooshy even highlighted it when he quoted me. Your immediate AEW good WWE bad response makes you not worth bothering with and I won't engage in future. When it comes to the year end awards though I am voting for you vs WWE in the feud of the year, unfortunately though I doubt there will ever be an end to it.

The thing with the piledriver is within WWE...uh, "lore" it has actually been banned in the past for being dangerous with their top guys ending up hurt from it. Even if other versions of it or similar style bumps still occur, that style piledriver doesn't so much. Even so, people are conveniently ignoring the context in this particular scenario. It's the fact it was done on Orton, who fairly recently had an extended period out with a thspinal injury and surgery, thought to be potentially career ending. It's that Owens has opted to hit him with one with that knowledge  and intention, the bastard. Triple H vs Shawn Michaels at SummerSlam 2002 made your simple backbreaker seem DISGUSTENG, dastardly and horrific due to the related context despite those and similar appearing in matches all the time.

On Bloodline, I think Rock has to be popping in again at Survivor Series. Not to be in the match, but probably in the post match shenanigans to kick off Roman/Rock proper. Would make some more sense of him turning up at Badd Blood and not being referenced since. Roman had interaction with Cody that made it look like in his head he's "nothing to do with me mate, he's coming for you'. Whereas it seems clear Rocks perspective is turning up to show he's never too far away, always watching and now sees Roman sleeping with the enemy and is pissed. Rock referenced Bloodline Civil War in his little instagram promo, he has to be getting involved. And I get the impression WWE want to have and create that similar buzz to the show ending to last year with Punks return, leading into New Year and the Netflix debut, where I see Rock becoming more prominent and getting the wheels in motion to WrestleMania build. Can see OG Bloodline going over, everyone is down bar Roman. Rock arrives, Roman confused but not unhappy to see him, Rock looks like he's going to embrace Roman, but BAM, Rock Bottom, takes the Ula Fala and swans off.

Still not sure where Rock/Cody would fit in at this point though, but believe they still want to do it. Previously imagined they'd meet for the WWE title at the Rumble with Roman winning the Rumble itself. Not so sure now. Perhaps a possibility they're holding that back and keeping it in the backpocket for the first SummerSlam weekender.

Not saying they engineered it. Nor was it a brag or a dig. Just saying that it was simple and effective pro wrestling, which is a good thing.
