The burger thing's interesting, because I once saw a place in Scotland that did battered burgers. Sounded good, but I only saw it on the menu too late, after I'd got my fish & chips.

What's the position on battered burgers?

I've not had one as a reformed adult with impeccable taste, however they are absolutely stellar. CHEESE ON for extra thickness.

Round here parts up north you tend to find a few of the chippies usually always do a bit of doner, pizza, even wraps. However, you tend to find anything that moves away from the traditional chippy menu is rubbish.

Also, I've had three red pudding suppers since this thread came to be. I think I had that many in the 5 years prior. Good work.

I love a good Chinese, Indian, Pizza like anyone else.

There is a food version of "I've got black friends" after all ;)

Look lads, it's called a chippy.  If it does chips then it's a chippy.  Not fries, chips.  Whether it's a decent one or not, that's the discussion.  The jack of all trades was discussed as far back as page 5 and I agree, the ones who don't specialise tend not to be anything above average across the board.

Battered burgers have been around the Mansfield area for at least 30 years, and I remember discovering them shortly after going through an energetic phase of battered sausages when I was about 7.

I had one as an adult and it wasn't as enjoyable because it was a really cheap shitty burger that they'd used, and I don't have the tolerance for that much batter in one go anymore.

Back at the ranch, a delicious (small) cod, chips and battered sausage from Devon. The sausage in particular was a delight.

Interesting choice for a vegetarian there Gus...battered Quorn sausages yeah?

Where in Devon was this? Chips looks really nice, as does the sausage. I found a really nice one in South Molton during the summer. Went there three times in one week because of this bloody thread. No ragrets.

Once again, you are going to a fucking kebab shop and mistaking it for a chippy. Yoghurt and mint are condiments for lamb kebabs, not fish.

Stop doing chip shops wrong.

It's called variety you daft racist.

I can't stand the "X sauce is for Y food" mentality. I have BBQ sauce with my fry-ups too if you want to have a pop at that, and I have Southwest sauce on my BMT.

Crackings posts by Lion, Keith and Raid. We're clearly the good guys in this rivalry.

It's got nothing to do with race or nationality for me, I just think it's a jack of all trades thing. If it's good, fair enough but I've rarely come across a place that does Pizza/Indian/Chinese//Fish and Chips that's any good. Each to their own and all.

None of these are in the debate. Chippies can do donner kebabs. A donner kebab and a bag of chips is a beautiful thing.

Don't make me post my Mania 33 meal again.

@Accident Prone siding with Keith makes you the babyface in any situation. We wouldn't be giving the Saudis a Rumble. The anti-kebab lot want to cancel Evolution. I've seen their bus.

At least you found something good about South Molton. It's such a nothing town in the middle of nowhere. At least Bideford and Barnstaple have some nice bits.
