Paid Members Bettencourt Posted June 15, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 15, 2017 Derek McInnes has turned down the opportunity to move to Sunderland. I'm so fucking happy. Â Losing half your first eleven including star player AND your management team with the season officially starting in just 4 weeks would have been a disaster. Paid Members PunkStep Posted June 15, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 15, 2017 Managers from Scottish teams that aren't called Celtic are even turning down the Sunderland job. Fucking hell, what a poisoned chalice that position is.
Mr_Danger
Even Moyes didn't want to keep it and he'll probably never work again. Here's another reason to hate football. Man City bought Melbourne F.C for £7.5m and signed Aaron Mooy for  £0. They've just sold him without ever playing him for £10m.
Paid Members SpursRiot2012 Posted June 15, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 15, 2017 City are the worst. There's nothing likeable about that club. At least when Chelsea spent insane amounts of money when Roman took over, it was novel. Something different after years of Arsenal and United dominating. City haven't even got that going for them. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted June 15, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 15, 2017 As much as I agree with sticking the boot in to City, it's more fool Huddersfield for agreeing to that fee for Mooy.
Mr_Danger
Was Mooy not one of their top performers though? £10m for a key player in a promotion campaign doesn't feel too crazy when you consider Everton are patting themselves on the back for tying up Pickford for £30m or Liverpool receiving £15m for Ibe last season.
Paid Members Lenin Posted June 15, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 15, 2017 With Pickford going for £24 million plus add ons taking the deal up to around £30 million, what do you reckon Donnarumma will go for? Few sources reporting that he has turned down a new contract with Milan. Is he as good as the hype?
Sphinx
There's a fair few clubs that would have been looking at Pickford. That fee doesn't surprise me too much. Obviously it's not the same level, but he did well on loan at Preston too when I saw him (and statistically - he kept 13 clean sheets in 27 appearances). He's also played for England through the age groups and it will surely only be a matter of time before he gets his first senior cap. Supposedly Real are looking at Donnarumma. He only has a year left on his contract and has said he doesn't want to renew, so they could get him cheaper than they would have otherwise. Paid Members tiger_rick Posted June 16, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 16, 2017 Watching some shit FA Cup Final tunes and reminded that in 1997, Chelsea had Leboeuf, Vialli, Zola, Di Matteo, Petrescu, Gullit, Wise and Hughes and finished 6th. The strength of that Premier League. Fucking loved the foreign lads who came over then. Everyone felt like an adventure. Paul Pogba? £85m. Fucking bore. Dan Petrescu? What a man. Paid Members PunkStep Posted June 16, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 16, 2017 I loved Boro around that time. Juninho, Ravanelli and Disco Emerson. Was thrilling to see them sign at the time.
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted June 16, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 16, 2017 While they were good PunkStep, they didn't have anything on the potent attacking force that was 'Boro 2016-2017. Kids will grow up in years to go with a love of the game based on watching their MOTD highlights at the end of every episode.

Man United won the title with 75 points that season. I'm not sure whether that means teams were at a high level and were more evenly-matched or they were just plain worse than they are now. There were only 2 points separating 13th and 18th as well for God's sake.
westlondonmist
I would say a bit of both. Many of the teams had players that seemed to stay at a club for ages and be happy being associated to one club, these days they would have fucked off for the money so many of the teams had some top quality players. However if you look at the squads they were not filled with the best in Europe like the top ones are. The European competitions were far more equal than now as Dutch, Belgian, Scottish etc sides sell their best players quicker now days.

The trouble is they were backed up by Scott Minto, Erland Johnsen, Kevin Hitchcock et al. An amazing time to be a young Chelsea fan.
