Been playing Slender: The Eight Pages instead of cracking on with essays like I should. I'm loving the simplicity of it, and I'm finding it quite addictive but still haven't managed to get past 6 pages yet. Anyone else played this? It's genuinely terrifying.

Been playing Hitman: Absolution. I'm enjoying it, but something isn't quite sitting right with me. I understand that storyline wise it's not like it used to be where you would be sent on missions to military bases and stuff like that. I think that's what I'm missing. Agent 47 has gone rogue, he's still on a mission but it feels more like he's winging it. There are some nice additions to this game though, particularly the suspicion of those you are trying to impersonate so you have to try and blend in more, and there seems to be more of a variety to taking someone out.

What I've always liked with the Hitman games is, if you wanted to, you could go in all guns blazing and you wouldn't fail. You can be as loud or as quiet as you like. I'm a perfectionist and I want to be that silent assassin. I'll only kill others if I absolutely really need to and can't see another option. I'll always try and find the evidence or anything else that hides my identity. I love the sneeky, sneeky catchy monkey approach.

Still on Dead Rising 2; am over halfway into the main story but I'm torn between finishing it or just going with the flow and re-booting later in favour of a major treasure-hunt. It took me about twelve attempts to kill the psychotic chef only to find I didn't have enough time finish the story mission with four casino vault raids. I let the chef victory go wasted :(, but overall it seems to me that it doesn't make much difference at all missing these encounters out.

Getting new skills completely at random when levelling is a bit of a pain (I've good health but a very low attack stat and only 6 inventory slots) as is finding the raw materials.

I'm sat watching a DVD on my Xbox and the DVD turned off and what looked like someone's background image on their Samsung Galaxy appeared on my TV. A photo of some girl and her mates, with the apps and time and everything. Then after several seconds it went off.

I'm connected to a wired connection.

What the fuck was that?

Downloaded and played Street Fighter X Mega Man today, a free-to-download crossover Mega Man game. Made by some guy from Singapore and overlooked by Capcom. The game is shit.

It suffers from all the downfalls of fan games; it's super difficult for no reason, it has shit enemy placements and cheap mechanics and traps you'd never see in an actual Mega Man game, the level design is bland, and so on. Once the novelty of hearing 8-bit Street Fighter songs in a Mega Man game wears off (doesn't take long) there is very little in the game. The biggest gripe I have with it though, is there's no password/save system. You have to play it start to finish. It's a piss take.

I thought it was genius. It shows how something can be scary with very, very simple rules. I'm working on a horror game right now, and Slender is something I really admired.

No idea TripleA that sounds fucking weird though.

Been playing Far Cry 3 to death and what a cracking game it is, are the previous games in the series worth picking up?

I liked the first game in the series but just couldn't get into Far Cry 2 at all.

Completed the main story in Far Cry 3 including taking all towers and bases and fookin loved it. Shame there was a delay getting it on Steam though for the PC version.

So what are everyone's favourite and worst games of the year and have you found any hidden gems? It seems easier to just ask here instead of making a new gaming thread.

The Walking Dead is easily the most memorable for me but it's been praised to death already, Mark of The Ninja would most likely come in second, it's just the perfect pure stealth game that does away with any convoluted storylines and lets you play in any way you wish with a huge amount of unlockable weapons, suits and gadgets to test out. An honorable mention to Hotline Miami, it could have been the game of the year if it was longer and had a few control niggles smoothed over, it's a gorgeous looking/sounding hazy mix of Vice City, Demons Souls difficulty and the film Drive with violence galore but also needs a lot of tactical thinking as you will die a hell of a lot.

Now worst game is a tough one, i can't remember playing anything really bad if i choose ignore WWE 13 (which is atrocious) although, Hitman was a slight letdown but nothing horribly bad.

It's been a bit of a weird year, I think. There's been loads of big games out, and I've bought and enjoyed plenty of them (really hated a fair few as well), but there's not really been anything better than games we've had over the last few years. Thinking about it, I've probably traded in most of the games I've bought this year - the only ones still on my shelf ("the "keepers") are Borderlands 2, that new edition of Dark Souls, and the Xbox versions of Doom 3 and The Witcher 2, but only because I haven't finished those yet.

So I guess Borderlands 2 and Dark Souls are my games of the year, but maybe Dark Souls shouldn't count because it was originally released in 2011. The Walking Dead's amazing as well, everyone should play it immediately. Darksiders 2 is by far my worst game of the year, absolutely terrible in every way. Worse than NeverDead, which is easily second worst of the year. Disappointment of the year goes to Mass Effect 3, with The Darkness 2 in second place. Assassin's Creed 3 and WWE 13 can go in that category as well. It's not all shit though, I've been quite enjoying the Wii U!

Game of the year for me is SSX, First game ive marked on my calendar for its release date and got as soon as it came out (I normally wait till the games are a bit cheaper) Paid full price for it but as a lover of every single version of the game over the years this was well worth it. With its online play it makes it 100 times better then every other version as well. If anyones got xbox live and this game and think they can beat me look out for SSX PRO.

I haven't gamed much this year, but of the games I have played X-Com: Enemy Unknown has been the clear leader.

Civilisation IV was up there as well - I guess I'm really feeling the whole turn-based vibe at the minute. I think I would really enjoy Walking Dead - I must check it out eventually.
