Is there a Fan Fiction rule that you can only write Fan Fiction about really cack books to begin with? The absolute worst thing about Twilight is that it's made people who read Anne Rice feel like they can take a moral high ground on what constitutes a "good" vampire book. One, because it's damaging their industry and two because for once it's actually something outside of the industry itself that's the problem. It's like all the wrestlers champing at the bit to attack Meltzer, because they're so relieved that they're not the problem for once. Yes and no. In the past porn has been very much of the mentality that all publicity is good publicity as regards sex work and kinks. But on this occasion there was genuine real concern that her depiction of BDSM was going to cause harm to the industry and also to people partaking in it without knowing what the hell they're doing. Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted September 11, 2018 Moderators Share Posted September 11, 2018 Interesting. Do you think that's because it's a bit more mainstream these days, so they've got more skin in the game / more rep to protect?
Mr_Danger
I wish all fan fiction was outlawed. Firstly because it's shit but also because I'd live in a world where my 13 year old daughter hadn't read terrible stories about My Chemical Romance going sexy time on each other. Do you think that's because it's a bit more mainstream these days, so they've got more skin in the game / more rep to protect? In a way. Kink in particular were extremely vocal about their opposition to James' stuff and the film releases and you can understand why. They've done more within the porn industry to legitimise and educate about BDSM and numerous other fetishes than anyone in history, their videos were pioneering in terms of the way the performers were interviewed at the end of them. Then along comes this pillock who doesn't have a clue what she's talking about, shifts millions of copies of her awful books and undoes a lot of the work they had put in. So it's more protecting what they have tried to build for the genre as a whole rather than just their own interests because I'm sure her books would have put more eyes on their product. Paid Members BomberPat Posted September 11, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted September 11, 2018 Yeah, the problem as I understand it is with 50 Shades claiming to represent a BDSM relationship, when actually what she's talking about is an abusive, controlling relationship. That might be fine as a fantasy in its own right, but with the size of the platform 50 Shades ended up with, it effectively gave controlling, abusive sociopaths free reign to be abusive and controlling under the guise of "it's sexy like in 50 Shades", and put women who were genuinely curious about BDSM in a position of vulnerability where they're open to abuse and less likely to speak out about it because they've been tricked into thinking that this is how it works. Paid Members Carbomb Posted September 11, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted September 11, 2018 I had a read of that. Good god, that's some of the best stuff I've ever read on here. A shame that some of the stories didn't survive.
Merzbow
I saw Thoroughbreds last night, a really well shot and edited little edgy teen thriller. Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy were both brilliant even if some of the dialogue felt a little awkward and I think it may have been Anton Yechins last movie, he was great too. I was expecting a little more comedy as I'd seen people comparing it to Heathers but it's darker with much less levity, I'd say give it a watch if you're after something stylish and cool. Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted September 12, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted September 12, 2018 The Predator - If you're a Shane Black fan, you'll love it. If you're a militant Predator fan, you'll want the chaps head on a stick. I'm in the camp of the former and I'll watch it again. He's pretty much done an Iron Man 3 on it. I'm delighted.
