SuperBacon
Is ""Trainspotting" the one some naked bird shouts that heroin beats any cock injection or I'm thinking about some random porno I watched on YouPorn? .. which would be embarrassing. Â Yes, she does say that, although she's not naked. Â Regarding Scarface, it is a good film, but well overrated. I put this down to the fact that every wannabe gangster had the bloody poster on their wall, and only liked it for the snippets of dialogue that they liked. As a story of a man who is corrupted by his own power and paranoia, its good. It has a GREAT soundtrack as well. Â Hilarious that people are moaning about it being remade. Clearly they don't realise as Devon pointed out, it is a remake itself.
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted February 10, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted February 10, 2017 I won't watch Manchester by he Sea ever again. Never. I kind of guessed where it was going from the trailer and would normally avoid such things like the plague because that shit sets my anxiety off but I really wanted to see this. When he says the line I can't beat it it absolutely destroyed me.  Yep, same. It's an incredible film but as you say, it's one I'll struggle to watch again.  I read a review on Letterboxd which says Hollywood typically portray grief as something that can be overcome or resolved, whereas this film shows that isn't always the case. I thought that was spot on.   There were a few moments which destroyed me. The initial revelation of the fire, his conversation with Michelle Williams character - 'theres nothing there' - and the aforementioned 'I can't beat it' line.   I gotta say though, the casting of Matthew Broderick really pulled me out of the film for a moment.
Undefeated Steak
Scarface is great. The problem is when people watch it as a serious crime film which it isn't. It's like the GTA series, cartoony and over the top. Overrated perhaps but for the wrong reasons.
Mr_Danger
I feel about Scarface the same way as few on here feel about Goodfellas. I appreciate the craftsmanship and it does have a great soundtrack but it's so boring and Tony is just an opportunistic cunt, a bit two dimensional really. SuperBacon
I think Carlito's Way is a better film to be honest. Better than Scarface that is, not Goodfellas. Edited February 10, 2017 by SuperBacon
Porkchopcash
Carlitos Way is better than both of them i think. Sean Penn is magnificent. I watched a documentary on the making of Carlito's way on yt years ago, and it was Sean Penn who came up with how Klienfeld should look and a lot of his mannerisms etc....Klienfelds steady downfall is a beautiful thing to watch, from start to end. I've probably watched the film over a hundred times over the years. I do love Goodfellas but don't rate Ray Liotta in it, i think he looks and sounds great but his acting at times is a bit shite. Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted February 11, 2017 Moderators Share Posted February 11, 2017 I haven't watched scarface in years, but both the video game and soundtrack are immense. I enjoyed the film last time I saw it.
Paid Members Thunderplex Posted February 11, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted February 11, 2017 Watched The Lobster last night. Really enjoyed it. Quite a dry script and very bleak, but had me laughing all the way through.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 11, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted February 11, 2017 Carlito's Way is great. One of Pacino's best performances and one of De Palma's best films. Â On Ray Liotta, I thought he was excellent in Goodfellas but he's even better than that in Narc, which is a cracking film. He's had a spotty career, probably should have done a lot better with it. Paid Members bAzTNM#1 Posted February 11, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted February 11, 2017 (edited) He's in a lot of Poundland action film shit now, which is sad really. Â If you're in Poundland soon, buy "Killersaurus". British film that I consider the worst film ever. Just horrible. Bad CGI. Bad everything. Undefeated Steak
If you like Carlito's Way and haven't seen Donnie Brasco then watch that too. A really good, gritty film that's quite similar.
SuperBacon
FWIW I think Liotta is great in Goodfellas. It's not easy acting next to two absolute scenery chewers like De Niro and Pesci. The bit where he has to face Paulie after being caught again is great. He's excellent in Copland too, and yeah Narc is a fantastic film. Â Donnie Brasco, one of my all time favourites. I read the book around the same time as the film coming out and saw it at the cinema, and just realised I would've been 12. Fucking hell Dad. Â The book is heartbreaking. He really loved Lefty and vice versa.

Porkchopcash
I read the Donnie Brasco book before seeing the film and felt a little short by the film, the film is still great, but compared to the book felt a bit rushed. I don't know if thats the case with all film/books as i havent read many books before seeing the film. Pacino is great in that. Not as cool as Carlito Brigante motherfucker to the max
Keith Houchen
Had it not been for Carlito's Way, we wouldn't have had Mike Strutter.
