Aleister and Zelina Vega creeping about backstage trying to get Orton to turn heel. They even had a singles match that Black won. Then Aleister has gradually slid down the card since. Like rounds and rounds of dry toast. If anything, the most note-worthy thing is how little there is to discuss. Nice to see that in retirement John Cena finally got a suit that fit. Life finds a way. Funny watching him still trying to run, clearly not used to a suit that isn’t the size of a bed sheet. Tamest Unsanctioned Match of all time. Crash Holly had wilder matches. Becky Lynch’s band with the worst miming in the history of Wrestlemania. Pathetic. Seth vs. Gunther was probably the best match of the night, but that’s not really saying much. Seth Rollins is never more Seth Rollins than during his Wrestlemania entrances. Seeing him walk out visibly uncomfortable wearing those contact lenses, with the self-smoking jacket. No-one has ever tried so hard to look cool and yet failed so badly. He looked like someone trying to smuggle a bag of vapes into a techno festival. Cody vs. Randy felt like the natural conclusion to the TKO Era. We already have twenty minute advert breaks between matches. Adverts all over the mat, turnbuckles and tables. Sponsored wrestlers. It was only a matter of time before we had advert breaks in the matches themselves. That’s what this felt like. The normal match they had planned, but with Pat McAfee adverts interspersed. It could have been worse. When Pat was walking down the aisle I suddenly had visions of them doing a Mike Tyson at Wrestlemania 14 deal, where it’s revealed that Pat is actually a babyface who was working with Cody all along. As it was, it was probably the best we were going to get. A real sense of them pivoting and fucking the whole thing off. Randy punting Cody felt like them announcing that this is the real quiz going forward. Leave the memories alone, Pat. Ultimate irony is that he’s actually quite a good, entertaining heel. In a different angle at a different time he’d be wildly effective. At least he went out as he came in, paying tribute to the shittest elements of the Attitude Era. Dastardly heel for no reason whatsoever still respects a kick out and refuses to hit the mat for three unless the shoulders stay down. So stupid. If you’re such a prick and you’re so hell bent on Cody losing, why don’t you just count three regardless?! Considering Randy was going to end up RKO’ing him back to his home planet anyway, the should have had him stop at two in order to re-adjust his glasses. If this was a coherent company that knew where it was going, I’d assume a Cody heel turn is the Angle of the Summer, but it’s WWE in 2026, so I expect the same as everything else. Triple H will stretch it out for another eighteen months, at which point TKO mandates will manage to fuck it up at least twice. Somewhere, there’s the perfect synergy between Hunter’s boring basics and TKO’s daft nonsense. It’s just a shame they’re as bad as Takeshita and Okada. They simply cannot co-exist! Huge thumbs down.
