Paid Members Nexus Posted January 2 Paid Members Posted January 2 I know a lot of us are old Simpsons fans, but I was thinking specifically whilst watching Bob's Burgers that there are a lot of minor characters who make me laugh every single time, and then was trying to think of other characters who make every episode better. For the Simpsons, Snake is one who always makes me laugh when he comes in. I just love the way he says "Bye." Professor Frink is the only other one that I'm thinking of - I think it's hard to call many others 'minor'! For Bob's Burgers, there are a couple who I think are brilliant: Edith and Harold due to their disdain for Bob and how rude they are every single time. Mr Ambrose, the librarian, for how much he hates being a librarian. Trying to think of live action minor characters is a bit more difficult! Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted January 2 Members Posted January 2 Uncle Jack in It's Always Sunny, played superbly by Andrew Friedman. Absolute gold every time he's on the screen. Quote
Paid Members hallicks Posted January 2 Paid Members Posted January 2 Greg from Flight of the Conchords, maybe Dave as well. Greg as a foil for Murray’s social ineptitude, Dave for that “thinks he’s a guru but knows absolutely nothing” schtick. Larry Middleman in Arrested Development. “He’s such a pro.” Quote
WyattSheepMask Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I always liked when Joe Jack turned up on King of the Hill, honey Quote
Paid Members Statto Posted January 2 Paid Members Posted January 2 My Simpsons one is Jasper. Him appearing incongrously at the window to ruin Bart's hopes of refuge from the accusations of the townspeople is up there with my favourite Simpsons gags of all time, but there's also: - his turn as Frostillicus - the sidewalk being for regular walking, not for fancy walking - warning the Junior Campers to stay above the equator on spongebath the old folks day - paddlin' - theme from a summer place - you sunk my battleship What a guy. Paid Members I Bent My Wookie Posted January 2 Paid Members Posted January 2 I think my username is a clear indication of who I think is the greatest minor character in Simpsons folklore. The world would be a little greater if we were all Ralph Wiggum. The quote machine. Quote
Awards Moderator Frankie Crisp Posted January 2 Awards Moderator Posted January 2 Utterly loved it when Darren would come round on the Royle Family; he absolutely nailed being the lovable but dopey mate. I know the cast of The Office became more integral as they got to the later seasons, but Creed Bratton is one of the all-time minor characters. Steals every scene. Julia Brogan in Brookside, too. Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted January 2 Paid Members Posted January 2 In The West Wing then there are two minor characters who are very firm favourites of mine. Lord John Marbury is fantastically played by Roger Rees, with just enough over acting to keep John Spencer and Martin Sheen on their toes. Bernard Thatch played by Paxton Whitehead was also superb. Again one of those actors who lit up whatever he was given. A pleasure to watch. The West Wing is full of amazing actors just dropping in for cameo's and small runs. Quote
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted January 3 Paid Members Posted January 3 (edited) Patrick Mower's Australian character in The Sweeney. Lord knows if he has an actual name (probably Bruce). Appears in two episodes, which immediately become two of the best episodes in the history of the show. Drinks Fosters, letches at anything with a pulse, and every scene he's in is accompanied with an electric accordion waltz for some reason. Class. Edit: another reason why Sydney Sweeney is shite - ruining my search on YouTube for footage of the Aussie Accordion Waltz. Edited January 3 by Gus Mears Quote
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted January 3 Paid Members Posted January 3 (edited) Not sure if minor enough but Meena in Still Game is one of my favourites. Love the creative ways they use to never show her face. Even in the live shows. She'll generally get one big laugh an episode in English subtitles. Just a brilliant gimmick. RedTwoster Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Scott Malkinson in South Park has always been a favourite of mine. I’d have said Butters before he became about as prominent as any of the main cast - I don’t think he could be considered ‘minor’ these days. In Father Ted, John and Mary always crack me up, along with Ted’s general obliviousness as to how awful they both are. Barry Zuckerkorn in Areested Development is also tremendous, with Henry Winkler stealing every scene he’s in. Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted January 3 Paid Members Posted January 3 Jean-Ralphio steals pretty much every scene/episode of Parks and Rec he is in, although his sister and dad are both excellent too. Quote
TibBo Posted January 3 Posted January 3 He is gold in every scene in Colin from accounts. I start grinning every time it gets to the airport scene. He was the best. I know he’s the same in every film/role, but he’s perfect in jump street. Quote
Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted January 3 Paid Members Posted January 3 Dr Spaceman from 30 Rock. Does Leon from Curb Your Enthusiasm count? Quote
