Word on the street is Trump put another call in asking for the game to be replayed after finding out Balogun is a birthright citizen and shouldn’t have been allowed to play. that Belgian third goal though… beautiful. Couldn’t have been more fitting. Quote
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted July 7 Paid Members Posted July 7 I managed to miss the US team having a nice ostentatious pray in the middle of the pitch after their matches before last night. What a bunch of fannies. Quote

What a bunch of fannies. Willing to bet there's a decent slice of American fans that want to make that compulsory. I reckon I live next door to one. Quote

Members SuperBacon Posted July 7 Author Members Posted July 7 Another absolute World Cup classic. Argentina were terrible for 80 minutes and from 2 down managed to win the game somehow. Poor old Egypt must be gutted. Quote

Doog Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Feel like anything could happen in this World Cup, other than France no one really look outstanding and all look beatable. Would not be surprised to see Colombia beat Argentina if they get past Switzerland tonight. Think the final will be France/England as think England beat this Argentina team should both sides get there. Just hope for a Tuchel masterclass in the final then. We'll see, could just as easily end up being Norway or Colombia in the final from this side. Quote
Wee_Al Posted July 8 Posted July 8 The difference in the entertainment factor in those two games yesterday was vast. Even the penalty shootout had me like a nodding dog. Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted July 8 Posted July 8 It's really strange seeing Egypt talk so openly about it being a 'fix' and FIFA protecting Messi. I watched the game. They played a really solid 'low block' (really hate that phrase, but whatever), and broke at pace well throughout the game; but, if Argentina could finish they could have had a handful. Then in the last 10 minutes Egypt lost their shape and fell to pieces. Besides a very debateable penalty they didn't get, it really didn't seem like a stitch up. Quote
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted July 8 Paid Members Posted July 8 One of the many problems with the blatant corruption over the last week is that it gives people the ability to scream 'corruption' at anything - whether they truly think it or not - and sound vaguely credible. Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted July 8 Paid Members Posted July 8 It was a pretty fraught atmosphere by the end, as well. Any team that plays Argentina is likely to end up in a very bad mood, and having two penalty appeals within a few seconds of each other ignored, before being scored against a minute later, is probably going to seem like the biggest injustice in the world against such a febrile backdrop. It reminds me of when Senegal threatened to walk out of the African Cup final against Morocco - they were in a similar situation, having one or two decisions go against them before conceding. Also, @Gus Mears is right about the recent corruption, but I get the impression there might be a wider resentment directly against Infantino - he's pissed off a lot of people, and they're probably just sick of him. He's the Donald Trump of football, damaging FIFA's standing with his corrupt bullshit, so, as you say, makes it easier to claim corruption even when there is none. Quote
