Paid Members garynysmon Posted July 2 Paid Members Posted July 2 I know we always think that we consume all of American pop culture, but there’s nothing more heartwarming during the World Cup than the camera panning over to what is apparently some American celebrity or sportsman, while neither of the commentators nor I have a fucking clue who they are. Really warms my cockles tbh. Quote

I quite enjoy it when you see the likes of Wenger, Infantino and the like all sitting with random ex footballers that you had no idea had that sort of influence and standing (looking at you John Terry....) and I've had to Google who half of them are. Still nonethewiser on some of them! Quote

Still nonethewiser on some of them! That's fair enough. But I'd expect the commentators and the so-called experts sat next to them to know who they are. Bower and Murphy, who to me are equally as terrible as Matterface and Dixon, didn't even know who fucking Cobi Jones was last night. Instead we got updates on Murphy's cat. Quote

NeverYield Posted July 3 Posted July 3 What's everyones plans for watching the Mexico game? are we out, watching home, or sleeping through and getting up early to watch it before checking anything online.. I'm torn between watching it at home and going out with a decent bunch of lads at a good place right near me🤣 Quote
Paid Members garynysmon Posted July 3 Paid Members Posted July 3 As a veteran of ‘staying up until 4am to watch a Wales friendly against Mexico that finished 0-0’ in 2018, I think this is rookie behaviour, quite frankly. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted July 3 Paid Members Posted July 3 We live over a pub so we have no fucking choice but to stay up for it. Quote
NeverYield Posted July 3 Posted July 3 Reading that storms could prove troublesome on the day, Oh well, we'll see how we go, I'm definitely going to venture out for it though, minds made up. Quote

Rossman Posted July 3 Posted July 3 BBC 2 are having a full re-run of the match on Monday morning at 7:10am. On the subject of famous crowd folk, they had two bites of the cherry at the Spain game last night. They showed Penelope Cruz at least twice on TV. Both times, vows of silence from the commentators. I would say that Bower is slightly less terrible than Matterface, as he doesn’t have his heart set on being the most obnoxious commentator that ever lived. I know it was covered earlier in this thread but Pearce is just endlessly horrific. I did grimly chuckle with derision at the USA highlights though, showing Balogun with that horrendous and obvious deliberate foul on the Bosnia guy, and Pearce going “I think it’s accidental,” because years of mental programming have conditioned him to say that anything other than attempted murder is accidental. Fuck off. Quote

TibBo Posted July 3 Posted July 3 A few places are mentioning that they may change the time of the match to 7pm uk time due to the storms https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cvgmz3jyq9qo Quote
