The relevant section is behind a paywall but key quotes include Mike White laughing along with the host's description of the seen as "Sam Rockwell coming out as an autogynephiliac", asserting that "we're made into two genders", and that Sam Rockwell's character was a depiction of an "autogynephilic" fetish.

This took place on a podcast with Andrew Sullivan, conservative blogger known for his promotion of the "Bell Jar" psuedoscience theory that different races have different intelligence potentials. Long-time anti-transer.

Seems to confirm the argument made by prolific TERF Helen Lewis in The Atlantic, that The White Lotus is "post-woke" (read: anti-woke).

Also fits with Mike White cutting a mention of a non-binary character due to Trump's election.

Honestly bizarre that he's even familiar with weird fringe conspiracy, but maybe not surprising if he's spending a lot of time in the anti-woke world.

I didn't know about the Walton Goggins / Sam Rockwell scene and at least I don't have to worry about watching the third series. Doesn't surprise me at all to see Sam Rockwell involved in it either.

That is disappointing. Wasn’t how the Goggins/Rockwell scene read to me when I was watching it at all. Plenty of men do have the feminisation/sissy fetish, and it’s also framed as him trying to fill a void in his life and sleeping with loads of girls, then maybe thinking he wanted to be the girls he was sleeping with, but not finding assuming that role in sex to be the answer either. He specifically says he would arrange to dress up like a Thai girl and have white guys come and fuck him, not that he tried or considered transitioning. 
 

Felt more like him finding endless meaningless fucking increasingly unfulfilling and trying to fix that or square away in his head why that was. I didn’t read it as him coming out as autogynephilic at all, so very shitty to hear that’s what he was going for.

I do sometimes wonder with Rowling whether she was always like this or whether it was a reaction to people calling her out on one shitty opinion and she just gathered more and more.

I imagine it was doubling down when she got criticised. I think being sufficiently sheltered off from contrary opinions by people afraid to tell you when you're wrong, or editors and publishers afraid to say no to you in case you either go elsewhere or end up getting rid of whatever magic ingredient it is that makes your books sell so well, leads to people genuinely going a bit mad when confronted with someone challenging you on anything. You can pretty much chart her going from questioning to hating to it being all she ever talks about, and how increasingly extreme the company she keeps is.

Was in a workshop today at work. In the UK hate crimes against trans people have risen by 186% over the past 5 years and 112% against gay and bi-sexual people over 5 years. That's depressing.

 

in 2015 UK was no 1 in Europe for full equality, in 2025 it's 22nd.
