The best part is Fish has gone full grey beard and looks somehow 15 years older than his promo picture. 

Have they resurrected the Extreme Horsemen? I always liked their hand signal, very clever.

U&Dave will air Clash Of The Comics, the live show in which comedians compete in wrestling matches.

Originated at the Edinburgh Festival in 2011 under the title The Wrestling, the award-winning format mixes comedy performances with real matches in which comedians wrestle each other and professional athletes.

UKTV has announced it will air a recording of the show which took place last night (8th October) at London's Eventim Hammersmith Apollo.

This edition of Clash Of The Comics featured Ed Gamble wrestling against Phil Wang in the headline title match, with James Acaster issuing an open challenge to fight any comedian or wrestler who can handle him, and Maisie Adam up against multi-time champion wrestler Nina Samuels.

Other comics taking part include Ania Magliano, Harriet Kemsley, Amy Gledhill, Sarah Keyworth, Abi Clarke, Max Fosh, Mark Silcox, Adam Kay, Rose Matafeo and Rosie Jones.

There is commentary in the venue from Greg James, Sara Pascoe and Nish Kumar and backstage reporting from Olga Koch and Matthew Crosby. Ivo Graham is the event MC and Joe Lycett oversees as Clash of the Comics' CEO.

The format was devised by Max Olesker and Ivan Gonzalez, the comedians who also wrote 2022 wrestling sitcom Deep Heat. Olesker comments: "The grandest spectacle in the comedy universe at the UK's most iconic comedy venue, and being broadcast thanks to the UK's wisest, most astute and physically attractive comedy commissioners - it's a (wrestling) match made in heaven. For a comedian who was, many years ago, the UK's youngest professional wrestler, this has been the journey of a lifetime."

Gonzalez adds: "The line-up's looking packed, Max is looking stacked, and I have repeatedly panic attacked. Let's rock."

Joe Lycett notes: "After enjoying a crisp Riesling one evening, I awoke the next day to discover I have purchased the world's finest wrestling-and-comedy league - and I have no regrets. Your favourite comedians will be battling for your pleasure and mine, and I, the all-powerful CE-JOE, will have final say. People say immense wealth has changed me, but honestly, I just have those people taken away."

U&Dave will air the recording as a 160 minute special. Ben Wicks from Expectation, the production company that filmed the show, says: "We are overjoyed to be working with visionaries Max & Ivan, and the wonderfully passionate people at U&Dave to bring what's been a massive hit at comedy festivals to television. It's the right move to make. With cliff hanger endings, outrageous storylines, and - most importantly - the funniest people in Britain demonstrating an unquenchable thirst physical violence. We see this being a huge hit in every sense - and a bingeable one at that - and we'll fight anyone who says otherwise (providing it's in at least 6 months-time once Max and Ivan have had time to train us properly)."

Commissioner Jason Dawson adds: "Clash Of The Comics has established itself as one of the most unforgettable live comedy experiences in the last decade, and Max & Ivan and Expectation are pulling out all the stops to make sure this first televised event truly brings all the chaos, hilarity, and violence it's known for."

Channel director Gerald Casey concludes: "The lineup for Clash Of The Comics reads like a who's who of the finest comedians in the country, but viewers can rest assured they're all taking their training incredibly seriously."

Clash Of The Comics will air later this year on streaming service U and U&Dave. A broadcast date will be announced at a later time.

nah, Clash of The Comics is a good laugh - and all for charidee, mate. I probably preferred it as a daft niche Edinburgh thing that was a bit rough around the edges, but this show was still great fun. I don't know how well it will translate to TV, a lot of that will be in the editing, and whether it's presented more as a wrestling show or just clipped matches around comedy skits, but Ed Gamble had better heel instincts than some wrestlers working full-time, and it's worth watching. 

I doubt most of Nish Kumar's commentary makes the edit, particularly any of his jokes about the Riyadh Comedy Festival, or Jimmy Carr being so desperate to break America that he's trying to get his name added to the Epstein list.

Yeah, I want to see this one. Also, I like Nish Kumar a lot. Booked him for a few gigs back in the day, and he has the best laid-back charisma I've seen in person - never seen a comedian more comfortable with an audience.

Glad I’m not the only one who thinks it looks alright. I’ve got a lot of time for some the comedians involved.

Gamble’s a huge fan, and I reckon Acaster and Kumar could be quite good at doing some silly wrestling stuff. They were a good laugh when I saw them, “DJ,” at Glastonbury (it was two men with a laptop, queuing up tracks they like on Spotify. Zero skill required or displayed).

Now that I think about it, I’m surprised there haven’t been any wrestling tasks on Taskmaster.

All celebrity wrestling needs more D-Lo Brown and Just Joe though, obviously.

Celebrity wrestling is what gives me no hope for this. I'm a fan of a lot of the people as comics and I know some of them are fans but nothing involving wrestling, outsiders and mainstream TV is ever anything but shit (except the nWo).

If it helps, Max and Ivan - the blokes behind this - have been doing it in some capacity for more than ten years now, this is just the first one to air on TV. Depending on how the editing goes, TV could chop it to bits, but the fact that they already had comedians as MC and commentators, and doing "roving reporter" stuff live, and a lot of the production crew were from wrestling backgrounds as well as TV, there's only so much damage that can be done to it - WOS style cutting away from the impact of moves, or just cutting up matches nonsensically is about the only way I can think of.

Agreed about Nish - I was never really a fan of him in a scripted environment, but live he is one of the most natural and endearing comics I've seen in a while.
