Absolutely love the presentation of the character and the way they explain why he's a sumo wrestler throwing suplexes and dropping legs. I think Al Hayes is really good on comms in the debut. Don't get many of them for a pound. It's interesting that they play up that he's Polynesian on debut and then almost immediately switch to him shouting stuff in Japanese and speculating that he's unable to speak English. I think the character would have had even more legs if they'd let him speak. It's top stuff and really very clever to present a top heel in such a way at a time of such scrutiny around steroids. God, wrestling used to be so brilliantly simple, didn't it? I love how the wrestlers had to do almost nothing and could get a reaction. I was reminded of this when I was watching some NWA stuff from the 80's the other day. No wonder these guys could work every night and twice on weekends - even the most standard stuff was over and got a reaction. Now, wrestlers have to practically cripple themselves for half the reaction the Bushwhackers got for biting Well Dunn on the arse. It's such a shame. Quote

I've long had a problem with Yokozuna for the way he'd land full force on job guys who presumably had no financial safety nets, without a care in the world. while falling like a feather on featured stars. That said, its funny that it took a while for Mr Fuji to ditch the oddjob garb. I only had access to PPV's on tape in 1992, so didn't realise that there was a period before Fuji adopted the shaved head and robes. Around this time is when there was a real shift in giving away big name vs big name matches on free TV, which really could’ve been on PPV. Exciting times as a fan though. Could never quite get on with Blue LOD though. Hawk and Animal in the ‘away kit’ there. Always looked wrong to me. The gold as a one-off at SummerSlam 92 I was fine with. For some reason the blue, not so much. Quote
