Hobbs is betting on himself and I respect that. He was always one I thought had potential in AEW and had a bumpy stop start ride there. Hopefully he can find some consistency and something that clicks in the future.

Hobbs feels like someone who has found his level; I hope he finds whatever it is that will unlock something new for him in WWE; some wrestlers do better with more production, some suffer from the lack of spontaneity, and he could go either way, though it will be a shame to see some of the rougher edges of his work shaved off to become another WWE guy. I imagine he will be a heavy for someone - Ricky Saints seems an obvious choice, though I'm sure there are others.

I'm not too familiar with the current line-up of The Rascalz; I only knew them as a tag team of Wentz and Xavier, and once saw them do an absurdly over the top tag match with Bandido and Flamita in Fight Club Pro. Wentz leaves a bad taste in my mouth after everything that happened between him and Kimber Lee, and I didn't realise he was back in the group. They are very AEW-coded wrestlers, but I don't really see what they offer that a dozen others aren't doing there already, and there's a risk that New Toy Syndrome means they start getting booked all the time at the expense of guys like JetSpeed who have already found that niche. But then, maybe they do a Ricochet and find a whole new angle to their work.

We've all spoken on this before but Hobbs is great example of how TK's booking in AEW just isn't going to work for some people. All this stop/start momentum stuff that's been discussed can be papered over by wrestlers who can deliver super high octane thrilling 30 minute bangers. How often do we hear "Television and build has been a bit rubbish but the PPV was, as ever, amazing"

Hobbs hasn't quite got the ability to pull out a super thrilling match in a vaccuum. Like a lot of big men it's about how we perceive the monster and the storyline of how their opponent is trying to overcome the monster. "Great wrestler" mostly comes from how the wrestler works. "Monster wrestler" is dependent on look, work and booking. So when the booking can be a bit stop start and unfocussed the monster just stops coming across like a monster.

Obviously you can create the impression of a great wrestler through the booking too.

AEW's top tier are people who can overcome the issues with the booking. You've either got some of the most thrilling wrestlers in the world (Osprey, Omega) and incredibly good wrestlers who also seem to be incredibly creative themselves (Swerve and Hangman clearly have a lot to do with their characters and feuds, Mox too, MJF for his flaws can pick up a microphone and sell you on his next match).

Hobbs is really entertaining, athletic and has a great look. However he can't just bash out a 5 star match (nor should he need to). What's his character? Big man, something about growing up the streets, aspiring author? He has loads of potential but he needs a more creative booker to sell you on the character of Powerhouse Hobbs and why you should cheer or boo him.

Feck knows if WWE is the place for that. I don't get the impression people are much impressed by their creative but also big man wrestling is a much bigger part of what they do so yeah.. seems like there's room for growth in WWE that I just don't think he can achieve in AEW

Just remembered when Powerhouse Hobbs did a few weeks of decent vignettes where he talked about growing up tough on the streets called the Book of Hobbs. Then in one of the funniest bad creative ideas of recent years this turned into a literal book and he would walk around holding a book with the title "The Book of Hobbs" on the front and carry it to and from the ring.

Those vignettes were pretty great. A throwback to when the top promotions actually put a bit of effort into establishing a wrestler's character beyond what happens in the arena. Big Mark Henry 'Hall of Pain' vibes from Hobbs at that point. He looked like a legitimate badass to begin with, but the vignettes helped to reinforce that.

Agreed! Anything where they establish a character in the real world rather than some dodgy "cinematic" nonsense is a massive win. Sadly he didn't look like a badass when he started carrying that book round. He looked like a bloody idiot.

On the Hobbs front from what's been said AEW did everything to try and keep him. It's going to be interesting where he ends up, and if it is NXT for how long. Usually when there's been that competition to sign someone it drives the price up and it's seen as too costly having big contracts on the 3rd brand.

The story going around is that AEW offered him more money, while WWE gave him assurance that he would bypass NXT.

Not that difficult. Hobb rhymes with Cobb. Sorted.

It may rhyme but it depends where you are from. Some will call him Will Cobb, others will call him Will Bap, Will Roll, Will Breadcake, and so on. It would open up a right can of worms.
