Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted January 15 Paid Members Posted January 15 Will Hobbs should do great in WWE, his look and style is much more suited to them than AEW. I really like him but it's never quite clicked for him in AEW, partly because to get a sustained push in AEW they do require a level of workrate I don't think Hobbs reached, and partly because Khan is an idiot for still not figuring out how to book anybody who doesn't reach that standard. It's a massive chance for Triple H to silence the 'he doesn't push black men' critics too - if Hunter fucks this up it'll be a big own goal. Wasn't there talk about WWE being interested in Hook too? We could get a Team Taz reunion on NXT! Quote

They've also signed two indie guys called Alec Price and Jordan Oliver. This rash of new signings makes me think maybe ROH has a TV deal or they're doing a new third weekly show. Why else would you add so many new talents to an already overloaded roster? Edited January 17 by LaGoosh Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted January 17 Paid Members Posted January 17 Alec Price and Jordan Oliver have been on ROH a few times in the past few months. They're absolutely fine and Oliver especially looks like he could have some future potential, but it's another case of 'what do they offer that nobody on the already massive roster doesn't offer already?' More people getting a steady payday is never a bad thing but that roster is way way too big. Quote
Paid Members garynysmon Posted January 17 Paid Members Posted January 17 Hoarding talent just to stop wrestlers going somewhere else isn’t exactly unheard of is it? Quote

Given that strict budgets and finance has never been an issue for the company, hoarding is one possible theory isn't it? Edited January 17 by garynysmon Quote

Perhaps hedging her bets a bit. 'Let's see how this year goes and I'll decide if I'm still happy or if I want to go elsewhere'. Seems a reasonable thing to do. Give it another year and see if AEW do anything with her or just leave her floating around like a lot of others. If its the latter its fair play she may go. Quote

I wonder, given Hobbs is on the way out, how many other contracts are expiring over the next month or two, and maybe this is restocking rather than stockpiling. A lot of AEW early signings will presumably see their deals coming up this year. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted January 17 Paid Members Posted January 17 They've probably signed them all using the money saved from Jericho not re-signing. Quote
Infinity Land Posted January 17 Posted January 17 The US independent scene isn't particularly vibrant at the minute. Prestige and Deadlock announced closing down towards the end of last year. More talents should be looking to jump to wherever they can get a stable payday. Which also explains TNA talent trying to get snapped up by WWE/AEW. There seems to be some uncertainty on Steve Maclin's status. IInspiration/IIconics finishing up. Santana and Slater seen as good as gone in a repeat of Joe Hendry. Between AEW & the TKO model (WWE/NXT/Evolve/WWEID) the bidding war for signings has never gone away, it's gone more to prospects instead of big names. For AEW, in addition to Hobbs and Jericho, there probably will be some more Matt Taven/Mercedes Martinez type departures to come when contracts lapse. Surprised Mike Bennett is still under contract considering Maria and Taven have now gone. Guessing some injury time added? Who knows this might be the year Danhausen is finally a free agent Plus I'd imagine Chuck Taylor and Dustin Rhodes are considered done as active wrestlers. Quote

These guys are so unknown you didn't even notice I transposed their first names. Signing them makes no sense even from a hoarding point of view. Quote
