It's tiresome. It's the same bullshit that appears on Twitter and other places where you've got stupid fighting between grown ass men over different companies. If there's a "why even bother?!" comment to be made, it's why even bother mentioning WWE or Triple H? If you don't enjoy it then great, stick with AEW every week. But why are we still at the point where we're slipping in sly little digs when really we could just be enjoying a wrestling show, no matter what company it is. Shit like this is more disappointing than anything that happens on screen. Let people enjoy whatever the fuck they enjoy. It is completely and utterly possible for multiple companies to put out a quality product, have quality rosters and create quality moments. Just because Dynamite had some great shit, it doesn't diminish anything that worked on RAW or Smackdown or anywhere else if people enjoyed it too. If I could fix anything about AEW or WWE it'd be stupid shitty comments like this. We should be wayyyy over it by now. Trips? Is that you? Calm down, mate. I’ve watched Raw, Smackdown and NXT for the first time in over a year recently and enjoyed it all. It’s brilliant that both companies are on a relative streak of good shows that are showing improvement week-on-week. I’ve mentioned at length that both companies seem to be spurring the other on, all for the benefit of fans of both products. It’s the most exciting time to be a fan in forever. The last thing I am is any type of tribal fan, nor do I give a flying fuck what company people watch or derive enjoyment from. What on Earth are you in about in regards to, “letting people enjoy what they want.” Where have I ever said otherwise?! It’s still funny that Triple H can’t catch a break, though. If you find that comment so disappointing I’m sure Steph can console you. Metallica aren’t that good, either! On the subject of Triple H being a bit of a comedy figure, this is amazing. I’m sure contract tampering happens everywhere all the time, but blatantly grassing a company up that contacts you? Hilarious. I’d bet a lot of money it’s Swerve Strickland. ”Hey Swerve, when can you come back and rejoin Hit Row?” ”Probably after we see you in court, mate.” Quote

Guys fumbling their words, talking over each other and keep getting the wrong names, only for Excalibur to pipe up trying to promote something. I don't usually get annoyed by the commentary but it just kept annoying me for some reason. I think the more people they have there, the worse it gets. People have either become numb to it, or focusing on the positives. Cos I largely tuned it out because it was atrocious most of the time. Taz casually using Juji gatame. As he's being doing for close to 20 years of commentary at this point. Only for Old Yeller to ask if he could spell it in his usual pissy way, as if he's never heard of it before. Taz immediately reeling it off. Quote

Do we know its actually a case of 'Hey, wanna come back? Bollocks to your contract.' or more of a feeling out of when the contract ends? I have no idea about contract law and what is/isn't correct to be honest, but its an interesting discussion point. I saw that Tony Khan has the option to extend peoples contracts for time out with injury etc, so I guess Theres no real way of knowing exactly when a contract actually ends. I thought it may have been Regal to be honest, he has always maintained that he is a professional first and foremost and could actually see him telling Tony he has received the call. If it isn't, then way to blow a bidding war when contract time comes around. Quote

It's a shame, as they'd already found their solution - ditching Jim Ross for part of - if not all of - the show. Schiavone, Taz and Excalibur sound like they're having a brilliant time, and it makes the show so much more enjoyable. Their enthusiasm makes Ross's negativity stand out even more. Obviously, Jericho sat in for the match you're referring to, but even with that in mind, there's clear addition by subtraction with that team. Quote

Nobody really has been for a while I obviously don't know the inside working but his booking post title win has been some of the worst in the company by being almost non-existant. Aside from the runs against Bryan and Punk which were short he's had nothing of substance to bite his teeth in to, it's like they got to the end of the Omega story but had nothing concrete for him after that. Factotum Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Yeah I actually think this gives him something maybe quite cool to play with. Quote

I wondered if it might be Athena/Ember Moon given she was a big figure in Triple H's NXT at one time. Also on Rampage (spoilers below - likely unconnected, but you never know) Spoiler Apparently there's a beatdown on her with a sledgehammer on Rampage, which I would normally suggest was unrelated, but given Tony Khan loves an occasional "inside" dig (and why not, it's his company in fairness) and how ubiquitous that particular weapon is with Triple H it wouldn't shock me to find there was an extremely tenuous connection inserted there for the hardcores. Loki Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Put me down, like @LaGoosh as one who REALLY didn’t like that opening promo and brawl. Face or heel, the aim of a promo is to big up matches and stars and put bums in seats. Punk getting 10 minutes to run down the roster to make himself look clever is the exact opposite. He made Hangman look like weak coward, he undermined Moxley’s recent run, and generally did that Punk thing of making me want to turn off the telly. He absolutely KILLED the live crowd too. And then Moxley comes out and has very little comeback and they throw some terrible looking punches and get held back by some weedy looking security. The Angle Benoit pull apart it was not. Also Moxley is looking a bit Phil Mitchell around the gills again, slightly worried he’s back on the sauce. I enjoyed Punk’s jibe about him bleeding though. This in theory should be the biggest match in AEW history but it didn’t feel like it. Remember Austin saying he NEEDED to best The Rock? This was the opposite. No wonder they’re giving it away on telly next week. At the other end of the scale, Omega’s return was joyous, he and the Bucks put on a show and everyone left happy. I get not putting all your stars in every show but sometimes it feels like I’m watching the B show to another show, with promos from wrestlers I never see. That Pac got looks awesome, how come he never wrestles on Dynamite and yet Jungle Boy does? Weeks of Miro promos led to.. absolute absence this week. Didn’t they hire Samoa Joe a while ago? Isn’t Sting on the roster? Where WAS Hangman anyway? Tony Toot has too many toys and needs to stop playing with the latest ones. I remember AEW was meant to be about long term stories, are the moment it feels like they hired Mince McVahon as a writer. Quote
Guest Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 (edited) Assuming the story of Punk going into business for himself with Hangman is true and not just Dave being worked, Punk's odds of retaining next week just dropped drastically (from a 50% to a 25% chance AT BEST). It wouldn't be entirely surprising to find out that Khan moved the match earlier to get the belt off Punk for burying a major babyface. Seems unlikely, but I could see it. He seems far more inclined to give every one of his matches an aura of reality and brutality. You're not supposed to be shocked and it's not supposed to generate heat or sympathy. It's used to just add to the general sense of violence, which I think it does every single time. Watching him smash Jericho's head in as they're both pouring blood was an amazing, brutal, terrifying visual, regardless of how many consecutive matches he's bladed in. I'm aware I'm biased because I think he's fucking brilliant, but what little information he's given away in recent months (mainly on Renee's podcast), it seems his main goal this year has been to build up the Blackpool Combat Club as the most violent group of double-hard bastards. He wants it to be the modern-day Hart Dungeon, where it's a badge of honor to come through it, giving you an extra level of authenticity and legitimacy. Everyone who's ever worn a BCC T-shirt always bleeding everywhere certainly accomplishes that. They're the best faction in forever. Its a fair point, and taken in isolation I'd probably agree. But his matches aren't in isolation, they are part of a show as a whole. I'm not saying I'm right, but it feels like it makes sense to me. 7 hours ago, LaGoosh said: Felt like a real lack of star power this week with Hangman, Darby, Sting, Kingston, House of Black, Death Triangle, Orange Cassidy, Danhausen, Miro, Sammy Guevara, Luchasaurus, Ricky Starks and the tag champs all either being off the show or having very small roles. But we did have Omega, The Bucks, Punk, Mox, Danielson, Garcia, Christian, Jericho, Garcia, The Acclaimed, Jungle Boy. Felt like loads of stars to me. Oh. And Toni Storm was there. I really enjoyed the show. Every step I enjoyed, with the exception of Lethal being on my TV (well, smartphone). I'm really excited for the Mox/Punk match next week, I loved the weird build they did this week. It does make me somewhat concede @Supremo has a good point about Mox doing stuff differently. Quote
