I don't really put a ton of stock in Meltzer's instant reactions. You hear the clips sometimes and you can tell he's just spitballing like the rest of us a lot of the time. It just gets regurgitated as a clickbait article fact. *** Having largely forgotten about Hangman since Forbidden Door. He's risen back to no.1 in the rankings. Been back on TV due to the Bucks/Dark Order bits but won't actually be wrestling in the tournament. Then the first thing out of Punk's mouth is a challenge that made it clear he's back heeling it up. I don't know what the plan is, but there's something there to me. Edited August 18, 2022 by Infinity Land Quote

It's tiresome. It's the same bullshit that appears on Twitter and other places where you've got stupid fighting between grown ass men over different companies. If there's a "why even bother?!" comment to be made, it's why even bother mentioning WWE or Triple H? If you don't enjoy it then great, stick with AEW every week. But why are we still at the point where we're slipping in sly little digs when really we could just be enjoying a wrestling show, no matter what company it is. Shit like this is more disappointing than anything that happens on screen. Let people enjoy whatever the fuck they enjoy. It is completely and utterly possible for multiple companies to put out a quality product, have quality rosters and create quality moments. Just because Dynamite had some great shit, it doesn't diminish anything that worked on RAW or Smackdown or anywhere else if people enjoyed it too. If I could fix anything about AEW or WWE it'd be stupid shitty comments like this. We should be wayyyy over it by now. Yeah wrestling's great as a whole right now* I watch AEW expecting the two hours to pretty much fly by. I'll clear time, absorb it, think about it. I watch WWE with zero expectation, usually digested during work or gradually over the weekend. It's a big, stupid behemoth and I enjoy it in a totally different way. *Assuming you're morally unscrupulous enough to ignore the disgrace of it all and take your mostly stolen entertainment at face value Quote

He got attacked by his own kids! Just brushing it off like that seemed a bit weird, they could have done it, while still having Billy show some degree of emotion at that. Main problem with it for me is that we were basically already at "Billy Gunn prefers The Acclaimed to his own kids" about a month ago. It feels like we took three or four unnecessary steps to get to the same outcome, and it's weird that The Acclaimed have now sided with Billy Gunn after he got his kids into a Dumpster match with them, and that Billy did the "you need to start taking this seriously" promo after a match the Ass Boys won. They've already done the big gimmick match between the two teams, so what now? Aside from that, great show minus a few nitpicks. Absolutely mental that Punk/Mox is happening next week, and I hope it's because they have something big up their sleeves for the PPV and that it's not a weird misstep or a "putting Hogan/Goldberg on TV" level mistake. My concern is that maybe Punk is still more hurt than he's letting on and they're going to do an angle-heavy match to get the belt off him, and that's easier to stomach on TV than on a show you've paid for. I don't think that's the case, but the worry is there. Maybe this is where MJF comes back, maybe Hangman somehow ends up added to the mix, but it's really hard to come up with an explanation of where they're headed that doesn't assume either a bait-and-switch, an unsatisfying non-finish, or a needless watering down of a PPV main event, and none of those things feel very AEW. Merzbow Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Hangman not coming out got the biggest boos of the night, that whole but just felt off because if it's a deal with him not being in the building to answer the challenge you surely make that known or at least have the commentators say something. Great promo between Punk & Mox though and had they just done the first pull apart brawl, which was just enough that it didn’t resemble one of the many that WWE have done over the last few years, it would’ve been fine. They didn’t need to go to a well a second time. But, it did save us from a Tony Nese match, so every cloud and all that. Insane that they’re giving it away on TV 10 days before the PPV though, there must be some shenanigans afoot. Took me a second to click that JR said that Jericho “has 8 stitches in his head” and “has extensions in his hair”. He wouldn’t have been wrong saying either in all fairness. You’ve got Ricky Steamboat at ringside. Bryan gets DDTed on the concrete floor. Any link to be made there, lads on commentary? Close to a century of experience in the business between 3 of them and another whose a fucking nerd, and not one of them said anything. Great match between Bryan and Garcia though. Didn’t expect to see Cobra make his long awaited return on the Dark Results ticker, I wonder if Sgt Craig Pitman is #AllElite too? Despite some absolute nutters getting it into their heads that The Bucks partner was going to be Marty Scurll, it just had to be Kenny. I could do without Don Callis chewing the scenery though, although I understand I’m in the minority. Probably the best top to bottom Dynamite that they’ve done in months, even Toni Storm’s match wasn’t a complete stinker Fast Eddie Vegas obviously! Quote

I'm not sure if Twitter is canon in AEW, but the Dark Order posted a picture of Hangman eating in catering with the caption "Hangman is a bit busy right now" in relation to Punk calling him out. Factotum Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 To be honest, people are talking about Hangman again. Nobody really has been for a while Quote
DavidB6937 Posted August 18, 2022 Author Posted August 18, 2022 Just watched it again and I really enjoyed the Garcia/Danielson match but I thought the commentary was terrible. Guys fumbling their words, talking over each other and keep getting the wrong names, only for Excalibur to pipe up trying to promote something. I don't usually get annoyed by the commentary but it just kept annoying me for some reason. I think the more people they have there, the worse it gets. Quote
