TheSurgeon
I just watched a video about controversial album covers, and the one that was really disturbing was one by the band - 'Blind Faith', which was a supergroup that included Stevie Winwood and Eric Clapton. I'm not going to post that particular album cover here as it features an 11yr old topless girl. But what other album covers are just odd/strange? Ronnie
I suppose the classic example is the original Appetite for Destruction cover: For some reason, a few retailers wouldn't carry it.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted June 28, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 28, 2021 i had that printed on a mint green tshirt when i was a kid from one of those old school print shops you'd see in holiday towns. I can only assume my mam never had a good look at it.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted June 28, 2021 Moderators Share Posted June 28, 2021 (edited) this was the original album cover for The Coup's album 'Party Music'. It was designed mid-2001 for a September release and I believe some press advance copies went out with this cover. But then 9/11 happened and they had to come up with a new cover before they could release it a couple months late. So it's not that 'odd' as such but it is an interesting story I think. The first that came to mind from the topic title was Bow Wow Wow's debut, which featured the 14 year old lead singer posing nude. What a scamp that Malcolm McLaren was, eh?
SuperBacon
KMD Bl_ck B_st_rds. Elektra got cold feet (this was Tipper Gore era cracking down), the album was shelved and KMD dropped, but it did galvanise Zev Love X to become MF DOOM so you know, swings and roundabouts. Magnum Milano
Keeping with the Malcolm McLaren theme, the album cover of The Slits' debut album features the three band members naked, bar a loin cloth, and caked in mud.
wordsfromlee
There’s that live Mayhem album with the photo of their singer with his brains blown across the room.

Chili
The Scorpions 1976 album 'Virgin Killer' carries a cover that pretty much sums up itself. Malcolm McLaren seemed like a massive arsehole to be honest.
Paid Members PJ Power Posted June 28, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 28, 2021 I'm gonna guess this cover would not be without controversy today... Â Â
Paid Members Tommy! Posted June 28, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 28, 2021 I'm fairly sure our woolworths had a display case with "System of a Down Album - take to till" written on it in biro for Steal this Album. If I remember right that just didn't have any artwork as standard and was just the disc in the case, am I remembering that right?

Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted June 28, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 28, 2021 Robbie Williams Greatest Hits has got a massive cunt on the cover, if that counts.
Awards Moderator Frankie Crisp Posted June 28, 2021 Awards Moderator Share Posted June 28, 2021 (edited) The Beatles’ USA/Canadian release of Yesterday and Today caused murder at the time. Known as the Butcher Cover, it was supposedly their protest against the Vietnam War (disputed by Harrison years later) and when released the media were kicking off all over the place. Capitol Records undertook a mass recall of the release and in today’s money, cost them about two million quid to retrieve as many as they could. Original pressings go for an absolute fortune in auctions.  Edited June 28, 2021 by Frankie Crisp
