The best Italian side of the last 80 years (if not longer) against the best England team of the last 55. One for the ages.

You’ed have to say the 2006 World Cup winning Italy side was better, by virtue of the fact they won the World Cup. Same for 1982. 1994’s team was awesome also. England needed an own goal, a penalty won by a dive (complete with laser pen being shone on Schmeichel’s eyes) and a home advantage to advance .

Paid Members Cod Eye Posted July 8, 2021 Paid Members Posted July 8, 2021 Watching Ian Wright and Emma Hayes' spontaneous and legitimate celebrations was great, especially after the cringy, for the camera's benefit celebrations of Linekar, Shearer and Ferdinand on the BBC against Germany. It still has not sunk in that England have made it to a tournament final. I was out with 10 of my closest mates for the match, and when the whistle went, none of us knew what to do. We just all stood there with massive cheesy grins, trying to formulate words. It was a really surreal feeling...

I’m sure there is great atmosphere around the place and it has given everyone a boost.

Yeah, the dive and laser pen disappointed me. As a Scotland fan, I find myself in the curious position of wanting to support this England team - for the most part, they seem like genuinely decent people. You have them taking the knee in the face of criticism (outside of the England game, Scotland didn't have the balls to do that), Harry Kane wearing the rainbow armband, Southgate's essay on patriotism - there's a lot to like. Denmark, given what they've been through, losing in that manner feels very unfair, though. Having said that, is there a way that England can win, and the Brexiteer types and racists who are trying to exploit this success (after vowing to boycott the team) lose?
