We've had a restructure at work and a change in shift pattern, but with no reduction of work obviously. Change took place at the beginning of December, one our busiest periods. It's been absolute chaos and mistakes are being made now that are probably going to reverberate well into the new year. I've got 4 days off over Xmas starting on 23rd. I'm begging for them.

Managers at work are being total dickheads right now. I normally work night shifts on Friday and Saturday night plus a night or two of overtime, however I'm off work next Saturday night. My manager decided to give me Friday night off as well, and put my hours for next week as Tuesday through Thursday. Told the other manager at the start of last night's shift that I wasn't available to work Tuesday and Wednesday, I'd never been asked if I could work those nights next week so obviously hadn't agreed to it either. He comes back to me several hours later saying he'd spoken to my manager and how I was needed in work, how one overtime shift was mandatory each week blah blah blah. I counter with the fact that Thursday is the overtime shift, and that I can't work Tuesday or Wednesday as I have a tattoo appointment on the Wednesday (and how I'd only get about four hours sleep before the appointment if I worked Tuesday night). His exact reply was "It's not a medical appointment", the continued implication being that they want me to work when as far as I'm concerned the discussion was over the second I'd said I wasn't available to work those days at the start of the shift. The discussion ends with him saying "I'll get back to you", not realising that unless they back down I'll be going in during the day with a union rep to speak to their bosses about the repeated attempts to bully me into working overtime shifts on days that aren't convenient for me. It's written into my contract I'm supposed to get three weeks notice for all shifts anyway (which never happens anyway), so as far as I'm concerned they don't have a leg to stand on right now.

That is absolutely wank, just take the union rep in anyway. Even if they back down with you, they'll carry it on with others who don't stand up for themselves.

Not sure where else to put this but I just need to get it out somewhere.

I work in retail and we seem to be having our annual “thanks for all your hard work over the Christmas period, here’s your reduction of hours” phase as they look to “protect the profit” of the business by cutting back on payroll.

What that means is that everyone is down to their contract hours. No one is on a full time contract, so hours vary. Mine is for 16 hours per week as a minimum. 
Im currently on £11.60 p/h, and I’m beginning to worry about how long it’s going to last before hours improve again. 
The last two years it’s just been a tight couple of months, but 2022 was an especially tough year and hours were so hard to come by for most of the year and I was fucking miserable just trying to get by. 
As I result I’ve got about £3k on my credit card, which I really want to get cleared (I’m fucking sick of credit card debt), the car’s MOT is due in April and I’m just beginning to panic a little.
