My mum's family is all in Vancouver. I love going to visit, there is so much to see and do and the scenery is stunning. Going out on the boats to go whale watching was one of my favourite ever experiences. I haven't been in nearly 10 years, I can't wait to take my kids when they are a bit older.

My wife's family is there and we've been a couple times now. Still excited to go back again as there's so much more I want to explore... She used to go every summer as a kid to spend time with her cousins, so it's really nice talking or kids there to spend time with her cousins' kids and keep it going.

I've always wanted to visit Vancouver. Nowhere is as beautiful in photos as it is in real life, and yet it looks incredible in pictures. Feels like it's one of those places you have to visit some time in life.

My wife (who is an occupational therapist) keeps getting ads for incentivised conversion courses to go practice in British Columbia. I am very much down for that.

Knowing this government, this'll probably just be a way to move some British people to actual Columbia.

Speaking of Bret, I've got the Pink & Black trainers in his honour.

I got to put on Ryosuke Kiyasu with a bunch of great mates in Birmingham a few days ago, played in two sets myself too.

Conscious of being a “hey-look-at-me-again-so-quickly-wanker” but thought I’d share as I was proud of our sneakiness.

We arrived in Molde yesterday and walked to the Aker Stadium given I’m somewhat obsessed with football grounds. It’s only an 11,000-seater venue but was really cool and I was desperate to get inside.

We walked around the perimeter and found a door that wasn’t properly shut and so tried our luck. Here’s a view of the pitch I managed to get:

We kept walking expecting to get caught (this is very much not us by the way, but felt somewhat committed by this point) and found ourselves in the media room. I quickly turned on the light and the wife got a picture before we hurried back out.

First off, I’m very conscious of the post I made the other week so I really don’t intend on this being a Frankie’s Dad pity party.

But bloody hell, am I missing him tonight. We laid my uncle to rest today and after doing the same for another uncle in May, I really am getting the most out of my cheap, crap black suit.

Long story short, when we got home and my better half went to bed, I went down that troublesome hole, which is looking at old photos of me and the big man.

Came across this one and I just love it. It’s from last August and not only is it one of the last ones of us together, but it inadvertently has more meaning than I realised at the time.

My old man was in the Merchant Navy. Went all over the place. Crap ports, no doubt legovers I’ll never know of and seasickness he’d never admit to. He loved his time away and had the time of his life, but he missed home. He told me time and again and twice over on a Sunday that whenever he and his mates were homesick, they’d just dream of that final journey and seeing the Liver Birds in the distance. They knew they were home. It was the end of the months-long trip.

A long few years later when his idiotic son decided he wanted to move into town and be near the waterfront, he also fell in love with the Liver Building. The greatest, most beautiful and gracious piece of architecture there ever was. It’s unique, it’s gorgeous and dominant.

Anyway, in his later years, my old man loved anything to do with the city, the Mersey, the Liver Building and all that went near them. I’ve been very, very lucky in that I’ve nabbed a tiny office in the Liver Building for my little business. It’s been a fucking nightmare trying to sort it. But I’m a month away from moving in.

Jesus wept, he would love this. I told him, before he passed, that it was in the offing and the smile on his face was ridiculous. The building he was desperate to see as he came home from sea would now be his lad’s office.

Shit! This is a photo thread. That’s where I was going, wasn’t it? Here’s one of the last photos of me and the big man - who hated having his photo taken - inadvertently getting the Liver Building right in between us. We cropped this and Dad and the Liver Building was framed and placed on his coffin during his service.

I’m sorry if I’m bumming people out with this - I’ve been writing lists and paragraphs and loads about Dad; most of it is incoherent nonsense and the rest is just, I don’t know, therapeutic.

Anyway, I’ll probably bore you with more stories of Jackie in the coming weeks and months as this is the safest space for me to do it. In the meantime, here’s him giving me my first pint in 1985.

Honestly, mate, it's an honour to read it. This is beautiful stuff.
