Is this one of them “wuxia style moves”

This is becoming incredibly tedious in record time.  One person used it as shorthand to describe some of the particularly elaborate and choreographed moves and sequences that you see in some modern wrestling matches.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wuxia

As in the infamous Ospreay vs Ricochet clip might resemble something from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It is not the hip new term for the modern wrestling used by the youths who listen to the rap singers and fidget their spinners.

I am imagining all of your posts in Principal Skinner’s voice going forward.

That is awful, I'm not even sure what's supposed to hurt in that move.

Surely the idea is that she’s using her momentum to ram her opponent’s head into the ground hard? It seems a plausible enough move to me.

I feel sorry for Sol Ruca to have had this happen on her debut, and I wouldn’t even call it a ‘botch’, as that suggests she fucked up and she simply lost her footing. It happens and it’ll quickly be forgotten.

I’m a huge fan of her work though, she was one of the standout wrestlers in NXT, and someone who has it in her to headline Wrestlemania one day. I don’t think they were wrong to give her the level of hype that they did, she’s incredibly talented.

The only worry is for his opponents given the current climate. Anyone on the Tozawa or Otis level, they’ve got to worry about being handed a P45 when they walk back through the curtain.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I wouldn’t be shocked if they announced another round of cuts and really relishing the chance to spit in someone’s face before shoving them out the door. They’re a shitty company.

Her previous RAW appearance went much better, she got a great reaction and had a very competitive showing against Liv Morgan which she only lost due to interference. She hit the finish and some other crowd pleasing high spots without any issues there too. She’ll be fine.

The move is over and gets a huge reaction every time. I think it looks cool most of the time but, similar to Athena’s finish, there is a lot of onus on the set up and the opponent to minimise the “standing around like a lemon” time required. Stumbling like that and going right back to it while the opponent waits is the worst case scenario. Wouldn’t it have been great if Becky had laughed at her for stumbling, then they fought for a bit longer and then she ended up getting hit by it anyway, immediately punishing her for her hubris?

It would, but that would have involved improvising and understanding how to work (in an old-school sense) and those are things which are not a part of modern WWE.

I didn't see one dissenting opinion on the Sol Snatcher before she botched this one on Raw and now apparently it's the shittest thing in wrestling. Let's hear it for hyperbole!

I don't watch it anymore but I've kept an eye on how Sol Ruca's doing because I thought she looked fantastic on NXT and, yes, I love the finisher too. It is a shame on the timing of this but I'd rather see someone trying something different and being afraid to miss once in a while than doing the same old shit. People need to become desensitised to botches.

Sorry chief, I was hating on the Sol Snatcher before she even botched one. I thought it always looked shit. But I’m not going to yuck someone’s yum on it. The beauty of wrestling is we can all have opinions on things.

In what sense do you think it looks shit? I genuinely don’t understand why some people are finding it objectionable. It’s spectacular, but also looks vicious you’re using your full body weight and momentum to ram someone’s face/head into the mat, that just makes sense to me as something that would finish a match (and, potentially, a person).

I can understand why some moves are divisive, but I’m a bit baffled by the issues people are having with this one.

It can look spectacular, but the set up can often look incredibly contrived. It's really not difficult to understand why some would not enjoy that.

I love it when it's hit well, it looks like it defies physics sometimes, but trying to fit it into every match means that invariably you see it coming a mile away.

Yeah I never understand moves that take a lot of set up or are “high risk” but then end up just like the regular version. By the time she’s spun around, it just ends up being a regular RKO/cutter.

As much as I love how it looks, I always felt the same about the Buckshot Lariat. He spins round and over the ropes to create momentum then loses it all when he lands and then does a clothesline.

I don't know fuck all about Sol Ruca, but that move is Overdrive levels of odd. Even with a Canadian Destroyer, it's complete bollocks but in wrestling you can understand that it's a forward rotation move and that's it all about the momentum that would effect the spot.

With that move Sol does, she goes one way then another and the flip completely stalls it and relies on precise yet weird logical timing for it to work. Like most of the real daft wrestling moves, is that it seems incredibly unnecessary. Sometimes a move can make no sense even in the flexible logic of pro wrestling and just seems weirdly pointless. If ANYTHING, because of what she has to do to hit it, it should be a spare finish for desperate situations. Does she have another finish?

But then an Irish whip is also somewhat silly, I don't watch WWE so someone in NXT is probably doing a much sillier move so what the fuck do I know.

EDIT: It's still nowhere near as stupid as that Davey Richards/Eddie Edwards suplex spot.

I suppose I feel that way about a high number of finishers - the Buckshot Lariat (as @boshealecta said), the 619 and even the Sweet Chin Music was telegraphed to the point the opponent would have good notice of the fact it’s coming. But there’s a difference between a contrived set-up and looking shit and I’m a bit baffled by the idea that some people seem to think the Sol Snatcher does.

I get having an issue with contrived set-ups for sure, and it probably should bother me more than it does, but it’s been part of the wrestling fiction for so long that I’m fine with it. I mean, even the idea of a finisher is silly really, if a move is that effective why not just spam it from the opening bell?

We all accept that the psychology of a pro wrestling match is built around a specific set of logics, and we're not allowed to question the logic behind those logics, or the whole house of cards falls down. The whole thing is ridiculous, isn't it?

Worst example was closed fist punches being legalised in WWE, Big Show then using a punch as a finish but still doing body slams etc before going for the punch after about 10 minutes, the blokes 400 odd pounds and supposedly has a great punch, why the fuck would he have to wear anyone down to build up to punching them?

Be grateful you don’t spend any time on wrestling Twitter.
