While I don't have a problem with the execution of the Oba Femi open challenge, the concept is definitely getting overused now. Becky essentially did one last week, Tiffany Stratton is talking about it for the Women's US Title on Smackdown, there have been multiple men's US Champions on SmackDown using it in a row for months, Lesnar himself did an open challenge to lead to Oba Femi facing him, and now Femi himself is doing it. I understand that modern WWE is very much based on surprises and moments that can be easily clipped for socials, but it's become a huge, lazy crutch for booking in the past few months and I do think it's hurting the product overall.

Just saw a clip online of the Becky Lynch/Sol Ruca promo and cringed so hard I've now got headache. "Not only will I kick your ass, I'll snatch your soul". Fuck me, who is writing this shit*?!

*I know the answer is likely to be ChatGPT, depressingly.

In their defence, in case you didn't realise, her finish is the Sol Snatcher, so it's a play on that. I haven't seen it to comment properly, but just from your post, it sounds like it makes enough sense.

I sense that WWE are teasing a slow burn face turn for Roxanne Perez, and i am all for it

She is a great worker and a decent talker, and in my eyes, with her stature and overall look, would suit being a plucky underdog babyface much better, and with Stephanie Vaquer being out for a while, would be a good replacement on the babyface side of things

She would fit the sort of "AJ Lee" in her prime sort of mould, Short, but plucky and marketable to the fans

And hopefully unlike AJ, not nonce bait

Gunther was right there though with nothing to do

Apart from feuding with Cody Rhodes on Smackdown over the WWE Title.

Which she unfortunately messed up, it looks great when hit right. I guess they edited it on the TV as the commentary sounds off.

Public service announcement for Roman Reigns to never wear the belt around his waist again. Genuinely can’t believe the difference it made.

Hold it and swing it about? Pure sex.

Wear it around your waist? Your Dad walking out of Smyths Toy Superstore wearing the plastic belt, with your mum telling him he looks like a dickhead.

Baffled by anyone complaining about Oba Femi’s Open Challenge. Fantastic watching him chuck massive blokes about to larger and larger reactions. This is exactly where he should be. Lad is twenty eight years old. Why fast-track him to the World Title?!

You’re not supposed to view the opponents as, “threats.” You’re supposed to marvel at the monster demolishing these chumps.

Just fucking look at that Running Uppercut! Incredible. Imagine the day he counters Roman’s Spear with that Uppercut.

The only worry is for his opponents given the current climate. Anyone on the Tozawa or Otis level, they’ve got to worry about being handed a P45 when they walk back through the curtain.

Felt sorry for Sol Ruca. I know hyping and promoting is the name of the game, but the dissonance between them pushing her so hard as a, “can’t-miss,” “megastar,” only for her to deliver a pretty crap promo and a botched finisher? Rough start to your main roster run.

Good go-home segment. I like the introduction of the Tongan Death Grip as a narrative device. It also reminds me of kids in my school trying to use it in the playground in the nineties. Unfortunately no-one had the skills of Haku to pull it off as successfully. A kid also get suspended for bringing in his own Mr. Socko and unleashing the Mandible Claw during lunch. Wouldn’t get that nowadays, because of woke.

Solid show overall, and Backlash looks like a good card. The problem right now is that nothing they’re putting out is as entertaining as imaging Seth Rollins running to Nick Khan’s office when he hears about the opportunity to lick some boots by sacrificing half his salary.

It was an alright show and I've interest in Backlash, but my main takeaway from last night is those two piss annoying kids behind commentary making me never want to repopulate in case my offspring are as intolerable as them.

Never watch RAW after a 15 hour shift, you end up hating children 😂

I liked the segment with Reigns and Fatu, Reign's hopeless look to Pearce as if to say "fucking get him off me!" when the Tongan Death Grip was applied was comical.

Breakker looked good aswell, lots of moaning online about Oba Femi "not manhandling Otis like Lesnar would", and nearly botching it, funny stuff, people are never happy are they.

Well obviously that has come around since, two weeks later.

I reckon they might have had it planned before then, to be honest.

Edit, made a gif of the sol ruca botch, I posted it and it work, now it doesn't

She lost her footing on the bottom rope and had to do the entire thing again, she did it well the second time but looked cringe at first

It looks cringe the second time too. Like Rusev/Miro jumping of the ladder at Mania to take a cutter, Becky starting the bump before Sol hits her makes it look lame. Moves you have to help them with it so they hit you are big bug bear (hi Swerve stomp).

That is awful, I'm not even sure what's supposed to hurt in that move.

Is this one of them “wuxia style moves” that the young ‘uns are talking about? To paraphrase the legendary wordsmith Davey Boy Smith when witnessing the Shockmaster “she fell flat on her fookin arse”.
