Underrated as he may be (he's not), I did think watching him chin the World Champion weeks out from THE BIGGEST WRESTLEMANIA DREAM MATCH MAIN EVENT IN HISTORY HONESTLY; 'Fucking hell, imagine if Headbanger Mosh had chinned Austin before Wrestlemania 17.'

Who are you to doubt Headbanger Mosh?

Saw someone point out that the Seth Rollins masked man thing was a clear nod to the League of Shadows scene in Batman Begins. Which sounds about right, WWE referencing a movie that came out two decades ago  and thinking their being both current and very clever and failing on both.

Or sometimes fans are desperate to find meaning in something where there's not and actually it's just a bunch of twats running around in masks.

In fairness, those things aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

I thought Raw was pretty good, but the only thing I feel compelled to comment on is Danhausen. I’m really, really enjoying him. It’s stupid, but it’s the right kind of stupid. He’s going to do well there.

I'm just really glad that his debut didn't get held against him. Fans can be a bit shit like that.

The crowds seem to be embracing him on all the shows and he's just a lot of fun.

Having now finished Raw and given it some thought, Seth and the League of Whoppers is even funnier in retrospect.

Firstly, he not only used his camouflage mosh pit to run away from Logan Paul and Austin Theory (Job Squad 2026), but he pointlessly did it at the start of the show too, simply to reveal himself to Adam Pearce!

IMG_5372.gif.6ad5e73b36fbb687599f27b615db6c83.gif

Hired twenty lads to dance about, only to pull his mask off and reveal himself anyway. Literally achieved nothing. The perfect blend of reality and fiction for the next season of Unreal. In both, Seth Rollins is doing cringey nonsense exclusively for the love of the camp theatrics. Thinks he’s playing a comic book vigilante. Is actually playing a cringey theatre studies goof. Zero thought going into anything beyond (wrongly) thinking it’ll look cool.

Bonus points that as soon as Seth and the Putty Patrol ran away (all twenty of them!), LA Knight immediately came out to fight Logan Paul and Austin Theory on his own, because he rightly views them as a pair of losers who he can smash up solo. Just made Seth look like an even bigger chump. Spent a fortune hiring, choreographing and forking out for the costumes of twenty lads, all to run away from two chumps on the level wherein Kevin Owens would probably hit them with a Double Punch if he walked past them backstage.

Heel. Babyface. It doesn’t matter. Seth Rollins is the fucking pits. Then. Now. Forever.

Rest of Raw was surprisingly great though!

Closing angle with Punk and The Usos gave last week’s Edgelord bollocks tonnes more drama and gravitas. Best Jey Uso performance in at least a year. Half expecting them to reunite The Bloodline to cost Punk at Mania, now. Would anyone be surprised if Hunter went back to that well yet again? Suddenly Sami teasing a heel turn on Smackdown makes sense!

Phenomenal bit of business with Penta. Between the incredible entrance with all the pyro and then the amazing promo talking about how thankful he was. This was fantastic.

Great angle with Dirty Dom and Finn. Tight, logical stuff. I like when you can trace back angles like this. Finn turning Babyface after seeing the light in the CM Punk feud. Dirty Dom’s life continuing to fall apart because Danhausen cursed him. Brilliant!

On that subject, I’m delighted to admit I was wrong and somehow the Danhausen-ness of Danhausen is breaking through and it’s actually woking! He’s been perfect since the terrible debut. A complete 180. That bit when they turned the lights on too early to catch him running away in the darkness was so unlike the usual WWE humour. Really made me laugh. Hopefully we see more of Danhausen screwing up the usual tropes. I want him to hide under the ring but then miss his cue and get stuck there for the rest of the show, desperate for a piss.

It’s amazing that someone brand new in the company is being given the freedom to put so much of his own personality and what worked in past companies into his act. I’m convinced it’s even more evidence of how much influence CM Punk now has in WWE. I remember last Summer, during his Saudi Humiliation Tour, there was a real sense of, “just hold on, Punk! Eat all this shit and you’ll end up inheriting the keys to the Kingdom!” And now look. Lad must be chuffed to bits. World Champion. Got both his wife and his daft mate big, fat contracts. Main Eventing Night Two of Wrestlemania. The entire video game is built around him. Even managed to get AFI on the game’s soundtrack! I wouldn’t be shocked if he manages to fly AFI in to sing his Mania entrance live.

A lesson to us all. Go against everything you believe in. Sell your soul. It works out for the best.

what I think helps Danhausen is that the debut was still in keeping with his gimmick. If we were meant to take him seriously, it would be a career killer, but him being a goofball just makes it retroactively fit the character even more that he would have this big dramatic entrance for nothing.

I do think that a big part of people booing his debut was the "that's it?" of it all. That he got this big choreographed entrance, and then didn't interact with anybody. Even in WWE, which is basically an Entrances promotion with occasional interludes of wrestling, it's ridiculous to do a big fancy entrance to the ring and then just leave. If it was clear that was meant to be the joke, great! I think what's refreshing of Danhausen is that he's a little comedy freak, but the joke is never really on him.

I felt Danhausen need to get taken out on his debut, he should have interrupted someone. Think of Jericho's debut, someone should have flattened to get the sympathy boos.

But considering how he's already turned it around, his debut is probably going to be the modern wrestling equilavnt of the Sopranos ending-Confusing and a let down at the time, later deemed perfect.

They've done it a bunch of times in recent memory... here's the entrance, tune in next time for the next development. Bray Wyatt and CM Punk's returns spring to mind, but I think there's more as well. I typically think they need to do something if you're sending them out there, for logic's sake if nothing else. But this one might buck the trend, due to the absurdity attached to it. If that's what they were going for. I don't know, it's late.

yeah, Bray Wyatt's return sprang to mind, and I thought that was fucking rotten at the time too. At least with Punk's return, from what I recall he did it while there were wrestlers in the ring, so there was a suggestion of who he might be working with, what his focus might be.

Its also CM Punk in Chicago. You can get a pass for that.

Danhausen, as fun as it might be, is still just Danhausen.

I was just looking at Raw tickets at the O2 for June as I always get curious.

Cheapest is £169 for basically back row in the highest section 4.

Lower 1 tiered sections you're up to £360 down to like £230 for cheapest/furthest away.

And then floor £900 down to £600 cheapest.

Thought I'd compare to last time I went which was MITB 2013. Combo ticket with Smackdown cost me £250 in 115 🙃

Mania is down to like $177 which is £130?

The ticket prices nowadays are absolutely insane, I genuinely can't believe anyone pays that sort of money to watch wrestling, let alone an arena full of people to sit through a standard taping of the weekly TV show.

Last time I went to a Raw or SmackDown taping, it cost about £60 I think. I thought that was expensive, but that was for decent seats.

The £250 for the Smackdown/Money In The Bank in 2013 was a tough call for me as I thought that was a lot, but justified it that we might not get a genuine PPV again.

In hindsight glad I did because that seems like a bargain in comparison. Absolutely insane now.
