Nothing special but as mentioned elsewhere these entertaining enough mid-budget thrillers have a real place when you're in the mood. The final scene being played out in the mother of all rainstorms had me quite jealous though. Quote

The most unnecessary live action remake to date. The Rock is terrible in it and was left watching it going all of this was prettier in the animation. It’s very mid and just in exercise in not needing to make a live action version of its almost shot for shot. The only redemption is I got a ticket to see Toy Story 5 but snuck into the 4DX (surprisingly aggressive) , 3D (surprisingly ineffective) of this to not contribute to its BO gross. Quote

Mr_Danger Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Obviously reviewers represent the opinion of one person but a lot tap in to the general perception of the average movie goer. Hence all the films that have the same review scores. Kermode more than most is very individualistic in his reviews and whilst I enjoy listening to them I know his views are very much his own and very different to those of my own a lot of the time. Your basic Empire reviewer or IGN reviewer (although IGN are absolutely shite at film reviews) seem to be terrified of scoring a film that differs from their peers. Quote

The Jungle Book live action remake was superb. Most of them are average to poor (The Lion King ones are terrible). He also says he is a big fan of The Rock who has phoned in nearly all of his performances since 2012 and by far the worst thing in this. But he hated Toy Story 5 and liked this. Quote

Paid Members gmoney Posted July 14 Paid Members Posted July 14 The Hot Rock Robert Redford heist comedy that came out the year before The Sting, but was a big flop. It's hard to understand why. Redford is a little miscast as a bit of a loser who thinks he's cursed, but it bloody Robert Redford, he makes it work. Supporting cast are all great, it's really funny. A very good time. Evil Dead 2 As someone who doesn't really enjoy horror that much unless there's something special about the movie, I've always loved the first two Evil Dead movies. They've just got that magic balance of unsettling, visually interesting and humour that makes every watch satisfying. Evil Dead (2013) This on the other hand, I pretty much hated. It's well made for what it is, but I almost found that more insulting. Why bother doing a nasty as fuck, competent remake of a classic that strips away any semblance of humour or fun? Make your own dreary torture film for shut ins. Towards the end there's some striking imagery, which just about pulls it out of the toilet bowl. Spawn Wow, CGI can be rough, eh? I spent most of my time wondering how they got this cast with this script. Nicol Williamson's last ever role! Martin Sheen with dyed black hair and goatee! John Leguizamo dressed as a 4ft clown eating live maggots! It looks and sounds like absolute shit! A failure on every level really, but it was quite funny how bad it was. Quote

Members SuperBacon Posted July 17 Members Posted July 17 I watched The Fifth Element last night, a film that's never been on streaming and only watched in the cinema or on Channel 5. I did see it in the cinema in 1997, but have forgotten absolutely everything about it, so was a good surprise. A fun romp, even though its slightly too long, but what a mad cast and one for that thread. Ian Holm, LUKE PERRY!, Tricky, Lee Evans, Tiny Lister as president and apparently bare knuckle boxer and East end "gangster" Lenny McLean (must've missed him) is mad. Korben Dallas is a brilliantly NXT name as well. Multi pass indeed. 7/10 Quote
