I think it's exclusive on MUBI at the moment.  Excellent.  Should be a mandatory watch during sex ed lessons, but not as an instructional.

It does sound like an excuse the filmmakers made after the fact. I’m assuming the film was a victim of Covid delays and maybe they rushed the visual effects to meet a deadline. One scene of Michael Shannon (poor, poor Michael Shannon) looked like his head was pasted onto his body using MS Paint. I hate the way Flash runs some of the time too, with the arms flailing.

But, as much as I hate to say it, it does kind of make sense. Even if accidentally.

As far as the flash is concerned I'm 100% convinced that the CGI was shit due to last minute reshoots and the CGI having to be done from scratch in a short amount of time. There's a very real possibility that it's the most expensive film of all time.... And it looks like that.

Warning (Daily Motion)

Punjab language movie. Set in rural Punjab and its criminal politically connected society. There are very few good people in this film. It has elements of City of God about it. The main character does his best to initiate himself into a gang by murdering a rival gang leader. The resultant reprisals form the rest of the story. The film is a dark comedy and its quite difficult to take it seriously at times.  Didn't stop me enjoying it. Its quite a departure from usual Indian Cinema. It tries to be gritty and removes the glamour that tends to wash over the usual output from the Indian continent. Its certainly not a Bollywood song and dance affair. The film leaves the audience with a cliff hanger. Warning 2 is currently in production. Hopefully it'll be easier to track down than Warning.

Most people will need to find a subtitled version. The film dialogue is obviously in Punjabi and I doubt that Warning has been dubbed Into any other languages.

Across The Lake (YouTube) made for BBC film starring Anthony Hopkins as Donald Campbell and his attempts to break the world speed record on water.

The film focuses on the last couple of months before the world record attempt.

Good film and whilst nothing new to people who know about Donald Campbell (which in my opinion, should be a lot more)it is still a good watch.

I caught Suitable Flesh tonight and it's dumb and cheap as fuck but a really entertaining Lovecrafian horror in the style of Re-Animator, although I'm sure half of the reason for making it was to have Heather Graham fuck on screen.. weirdly the director saw and responded tome post about it minutes after I sent out the tweet not even tagging him.

Magic Mike's Last Dance

One of the Mrs' friends came over for the new year celebrations last night and I was outvoted after losing a card game about which movie we'd watch. Salma Hayek is a sensational creature though. As is Channing Tatum in all fairness. Ayub Khan-Din is fantastic as butler/manservant Victor and provides regular comic relief. 

The inevitable filth parade at the end of the film is well shot and choreographed... although during the last dance I kept ruining it for my female companions by giggling every time Tatum did a knee slide along the stage. Who does he think he is, Ronaldo? Siuuuuuuuuu.

Some lazy dialogue and uninspiring plot aside, an easy watch with some good acting turns.

I’m not sure how many Magic Mikes there are now, but I remember being surprised by how much I enjoyed the first one.

Most disappointing thing about Magic Mike 3 for me was that Big Sexy's appearance in this one is limited to about three seconds of screen time, even then it's via a Zoom call. It did pop me to think he'll have got a pay-day for it though.

First time watches I've really enjoyed were Asteroid City (such a visually striking film. I think this might be peak Wes Anderson), Carol (a really beautiful film), A Few Good Men (after all the chat in the Cruise thread. Cracking, but was surprised how little Nicholson was in it), Under The Skin (a complete sensory overload, I bet this looked and sounded incredible at the cinema), Philadelphia (made me cry a lot) and In A World (very funny and surprisingly moving)

Christmas films were watched (preferred the first Home Alone this time around) and was really pleased that Go still holds up (probably first time I've watched it since it came out on VHS)

Wanted some Candy so put on Who's Harry Crumb? and it was absolutely shit (and included Candy as an Indian complete with a proper dodgy "Velly velly good" impression) and I will be honest, Mr Deeds made me laugh a lot more than it should've.

I enjoyed Saltburn, mostly because of Keoghan (a new level of BONK! that lad) but it's not a good film and I'll probably never rewatch it. 

Superbad a fitting end to see the year out.
