Started playing Battleblock Theatre last night. Pretty enjoyable and quite funny, although the humour might annoy me after a while. Dealing with enemies is messy though but I'll get used to it, I'm sure.

I've also been playing Breakout: Recharged, which is a very solid bat-and-baller to stick on from time to time. Just behind Krakout and Gunbarich in the genre.

Shatter is a pretty good brick breaker, a bit more bells and whistley than Breakout:Recharged and way better than the risible online Arkanoid they released a few years ago

Apparently I own that one so I'll play that next, thanks!

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy has been re-released on PS Plus with new trophies so I played through it again. I love that game - it's full of nostalgia from my boyhood and it's still a joy to play: a bright, colourful little platformer full of personality. It's a wonderful length too and is perfect for playing through on a lazy weekend. I will never understand why they made the sequels so completely different. It was to try and copy the gritty open world of the new-at-the-time GTA 3 I believe but in trying to mimic it they departed from everything that made the original so lovely in the first place. I couldn't warm to them at all.

Daxter, originally only for the PSP, is also on Plus and that one is worth a go if you enjoy the style of the first one.

I’ve never played Daxter, but if it’s more like the original, I’ll definitely give it a whirl. I feel exactly the same as you about the second and third Jak games. I’d love to see more major companies try their hand at family-friendly platform games. It’s a genre I loved even before I was a dad, but having something you can enjoy with your kids is pretty priceless.

In 2 & 3 they also turned Daxter from a fun comedic sidekick to an annoying little perv who always tried to look down the female characters tops.

Also the difficulty level in 2 and 3 is insane. Especially for a sequel to such a fun family friendly game.

Did they cheap out and emulate the PS2 version again? The PS3 had a full HD remaster yet I remember the PS4 release being a bad emulation job instead of porting that.

I gave up on 2 really quickly, I knew it wasn’t going to be for me. It felt like Ratchet & Clank, minus the fun - it was so far removed from what the original was.

My mate has borrowed me his PS5 (he got a Pro) and it has Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Astro Bot, Silent Hill 2 and a bunch of other stuff on there. Didn’t even want to borrow my Mega Drive or AliExpress handheld in return. Weird.

He's the one missing out.

It Takes Two. How a child who can build a multilayered base in split seconds on Fortnite and get to level 6000 on some janky arsed Roblox game can’t fathom the basics of platforming is beyond me but I feel like his generation is doomed. It’s a great game but it’s a bit more stressful than I’d bargained for.

Picked up Stitch on my Switch. It's a cross-stitch simulator/puzzle game and is very chill. You do the cross stitch section by section, but are given numbers as well. It's a bit Picross in that regard, but a lot easier. One to just wile away the hours. The cosiest of games.

I started playing Teardown a couple of days ago. I do like it even though it's very challenging from the beginning and I love the multitude of possibilities in it when completing missions. But I also suffered really bad motion sickness from it last night and that's the first time I've ever experienced that with a game, which is really annoying, so I'm not sure I can play it anymore. What a bummer.
