Paid Members RedTwoster Posted December 26, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 26, 2024 Thanks guys - I’ll pick it up, then. I was tempted anyway given that the ‘go woke, go broke’ crowd that you can’t escape online these days had flagged up through their bile that it was a very inclusive game, and I want to support that (when the game is good, as this one apparently is). Paid Members FLips Posted December 26, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 26, 2024 Final Fantasy VII Rebirth - Thoughts so far Not enjoying this. I’m close to 6 hours in and so far it’s all been exposition and bland empty open world. Now Chadley has shown up and told me to activate towers like any generic Ubisoft game. Crafting, empty open world tower activating and shit tons of talking is not a great combo with the so far confusing additions to the story. Really want to love this and hopefully it turns around but so far it may be my most disappointing game of 2024. Quote

I was fine with Turok. Will play it in small chunks and see if that works for me. If they have options for it try turning off head bob or lowering the FOV. Those are the two most common casues of motion sickness in games imo Quote

I hated it, after what a giving, beautiful bit of curation the original Remake felt like. Also I know it pretty much was introduced in Remake but parallel universe/multiple simultaneous threads/timelines stories are such a cop out. Totally deflates the gravitas you get from just one thread. Edited December 26, 2024 by The Gaffer Quote

Honestly only reason I didn't pick it up sooner is because I've had trouble finding the motivation to actually stick with a game, lately. Just happened to see it on sale and decided to get it. Glad I did. Characters are all really likeable so far, combat is fun and snappy and the story is pretty decent based on about 12 hours of playtime. Some clunky dialogue but that's just typical Bioware. Quote

That’s good to hear - I read that it was a bit shorter than the typical game of this nature, which is a selling point in itself for me given how little gaming time I have these days! Although having said that’s I’ve been playing the first Like A Dragon over the holidays and I’m enjoying the amount of side content. It’s basically ‘Procrastination: The Game’ and I’m enjoying that, it makes it easy to dip in and out of. Quote
Paid Members Scratch Posted December 26, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 26, 2024 As a random present, my wife got me Monster Jam: Showdown on PS5 having spotted it for sale for £14 and knowing I’m obsessed with Monster Jam videos on IG. 4 hours just passed by this afternoon, it’s great fun and looks great. Reading reviews, it’s rated highly and I can’t pretend I didn’t get slightly nostalgic opening an actual disc in a game case on Christmas morning. I’ll get lots of fun out of it, I can feel. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted December 26, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 26, 2024 I'll probably pack it in with Teardown. There's a lot to admire in it but there's been a lot less tearing down than I expected, and the missions are extremely difficult from the outset. That car/boat stealing level where you have to do 4 things in 60 seconds and then get to your truck, come on. No motion sickness is worth going through that. I'm tiring of Battleblock Theatre as well. It's no more than an above average platformer, the humour has got on my tits after a while, and getting A++ on levels when you have no idea how fast you have to go to get that is stupid. I might see it through to the end but balls to getting A++ on everything. You Suck at Parking remains loads of fun though. One of those games where you fail time after time but it's your fault every time, not unfair design or because of bad luck. The only thing I'd change is the world hub design for accessing levels, it doesn't need to be designed like an open world. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted December 26, 2024 Members Posted December 26, 2024 My 11yo let me have a go at Rainbox Six Siege today. I got killed within roughly 0.3 seconds and she said "OK that's enough. You're making my name look bad" and I had to sit and watch for the rest of the matches ? We also played Rocket League. What a load of fun that is! Quote
Cousin Jim Bob Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 The learning curve is bonkers in R6 @SuperBacon. You have to know a million sight lines and how to set up each round as well as having a decent understanding of each operative. People basically play it no coms now and your expected to know all the starting strats which is is nuts. My 10 year old nephew kicks my ass at Mario Kart 8, FIFA and Smash Bros so much it is ridiculous but the poor lad started crying at the beat down I put on him on Rocket League. I played that game online for years and he was not ready for it. Quote

I didn’t mind the optional stuff - particularly Queen’s Blood, which I really enjoyed, but some of the dungeons are extended beyond the point of fun. There’s a bit late on in the game involving Cait Sith that nearly had me quit the whole game, it was that tedious. I genuinely don’t know whether to say ‘persist’ as although I enjoyed the game, its flaws are glaring - and large portions of it dragged for me. Quote
The King Of Swing Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 (edited) I really like it but FFVII Rebirth proves that there is definitely such a thing as too much game. Edited December 27, 2024 by The King Of Swing Quote

How did you feel about the optional content? I really don’t mind having a surplus of that, but it’s when the mandatory stuff gets out of control that I start to flag. And that happens here - I don’t even mind the additions to the story, it’s the length of the dungeons - I hope they tighten things up a bit in the final game. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted December 27, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 27, 2024 Started playing Pang Adventures last night. Pang is one of the great underrated game franchises, all the games are really good and this is no different. Quote
